They clearly had faves and that played into how they reported on/talked about the team and some of the players. And that lack of consistency/kids gloves approach is what got people upset, not necessarily that they're giving Barnes a hard time. All players should be free to be fairly scrutinized when it's warranted.

But regardless, that's in the past now. Scottie is that guy now and this is part of what what comes with it in this market. Not any different from what Vladdy/Bo, Matthews/Marner/Nylander and past stars like Bosh, Vince or Mats (Kessel had it the worst) have had to deal with too.

Not only do these players have to be perfect playing the game but they have to fit into this acceptable personality box too. Not to say that Scottie was right for what he did the other day, but he made a mistake and he'll hopefully learn from it. Making it any bigger than that is definitely a problem though.

Poor Phil Kessel couldn't eat a hot dog in peace in this city.

I came here to make the point that this isn't anything new with the media in this city; Raptors fans have just been spared for the last decade because 1) we've been winning and 2) Masai brought an aura to the franchise that painted the rest of the organization. With these 2 factors gone/fading, the media is back to what it does best.

That said, with the way this organization treated Siakam, who outside of the Tampa year was an easy to manage team player, one also has to wonder if the org is doing a good job of bringing young stars along.

Or it could be all of the above. Hard to tell. But the only thing that for sure changes the narrative is Barnes improving his behaviour.

I mean the media are fans and nothing more. The difference is they have some players who will give them time of day and others who don't so they are even more skewed in what they do based on how players react to them.

The front office seems to have no issue with Barnes and had issues with Siakam that they publicly called out, and the GM basically even said maybe it was good that FVV left. Who would know better? The media or the people who run the team? I bypass the media because they are all biased individuals who will report based on who they like and don't like. We all know Barnes is a terrible at interviews and clearly hates media scrums. I have no doubt they have a hard time connecting with him. He's of the new generation of players who don't care about middle-aged old men, but he also clearly hasn't had much training in that aspect. Just keep a straight face and give generic comments and move on. Someone needs to train him on that.

If there anything the Raptors need to do with Barnes it's work on what he portrays to the camera. Everything else is just overblown out of proportion. If he leaves with 20 seconds left in a blowout again, so be it. I don't care lol

To be fair to Grange he basically said the exact same thing about Barnes leaving the court and Grange didn’t think it was a big deal. Mostly he just said the organisation had to do a better job of preparing Barnes for the media.

Right, but at the same time he was the one grilling Barnes and if you watch the way he asks Barnes questions, it's very demeaning. Now look at the way he asked questions when he takes to FVV. Extremely different when that guy also had issues.

Does anyone actually think this leaving right before the clock wound down is that big a deal? If it wasn't, why are you asking wiaruon after question about to? Barnes again, being terrible at public speaking answered the way someone annoyed with the questioning would answer. Take the media away and you probably have a lot less negativity than you do now. Even the FVV thing was created by the media. So many fans turned on him because of the preferential treatment he got from the media when he was a huge part of the issues with this team.

FVV wasn't a star though - our media goes after star players. FVV is the exact type of guy they like: the every man that made it on heart and hustle. It's part of the reason they loved Lowry so much, who definitely did things that others would get a lot of hate for in our media.

Imagine walking off the court right after tip off, just to go home and stream call of duty. What a clown.

That might be a scandal then, but professional athelets should be able to work from home too

This just in : Scottie Barnes caught sleeping until 9:30am for his WFH job that starts at 9:00am. The public is calling for the death penalty, more as this story develops.
