Re: Official 2023-2024 Magic General Season Thread
I keep re-reading this.. and while I think we should've improved or moved at least one of our old vets or use some 2nds to acquire at least ONE god damn shooter, at least he seems aware that this team will need to spend that cap on a good addition + use picks to acquire a player pretty damn soon. Seems like Jeff's opinion is:
- Good enough to make playins/playoffs, prob won't win a series regardless (fair)
- They want to see them try to push for that goal and even if they struggle, gain the experience together (fair, if only for those who should will be together here in a few years, which may be only 4-5 players max)
- They seem willing to push their chips in (selectively, but better than what the Chicago GM was saying about their team)
Some trends seem obvious. Even though Fultz is playing, he's not trusted in crunch time and he hasn't been given an extension, guys like Ingles are also getting yanked and not playing lately for being so old.
Although soon it will be time for them to put up or shut up in terms of actively improving the team with aggressive moves. Doesn't mean they have to upholster the entire roster, just make some tweaks to make us less one dimensional.
Self-aware but stubborn is the best way I could put it - which there obviously could be worse combos.

i love some of that wording. "8 1st round picks over next 7 drafts". so 1 extra 1st round pick. stretching it out more to include 2nd round picks which this front office hardly ever does anything with. and likely they wont be here in 7 years, not too many front offices last that long. if this FO doesnt address the glaring problems every fan and hopefully the owners see, they need to be fired.

I think we'll probably end up with around $20m after retaining Goga and maybe Harris.

You have to have "chips" to be able to push them in.
That's what people don't understand about this stupid PR talk they are buying.
What chips do they have? Franz, Paolo, Suggs, AB, and Jett are not assets they will use if they are "doing things the right way"...
So who? Nobody else has anywhere near the level of value to land talent.
Also, it is not a "quick fix" to surround your top lottery picks with needed talent. Nobody is calling for an Oladipo / Ibaka situation proposing we trade Suggs for some veteran or something to cut corners. We are talking about late draft picks that wont see the floor for seasons at a time (Jett Howard anyone?) and second round picks this absolute clown will trade like clockwork on draft day before names are on the table.

Re: Official 2023-2024 Magic General Season Thread
We made tough but defensible decision to keep assets and improve draft position in exchange for wins and more comfort of Paolo and Franz.
I dont understand how you can complain we wont have enough assets next year as an argument for making a move this year.
Having cookie and eating cookie case.
Anyone thinks we would win championship with Murray this year ?
Sixers asking about Booker is good sign. We can outbid them by wide margin.
Our most important task after the break is showcasing more of Black and Howard.
Looking at trainwreck of a backcourt we have i would say we will end up in the lottery after a loss in the play ins.

I thought Jaffro is a 7fter?
AD is 6'11 so PB/Franz are 6'10-3/4?

I feel like there lowkey will be a lot of teams trying to blow it up this offseason for a chance at the 2025 draft. If they're asleep at the wheel THIS offseason then...

The by far most important thing are picks. Players are only fillers in most cases. Teams losing star players & getting another Star or promising young player back is rare. Most picks in the next few years are owned by only a few teams. Sure OKC & 3-4 other teams can outbid us on picks but every team got different needs & timelines. OKC doesnt need a PG as a example. So they are probably not a threat in that case.
If Weltman ever does such a go in move (or any move at all
