What do you expect for next season?

Post#1 » by ropjhk » Thu Feb 15, 2024 2:51 pm

After all the trades this season the Raptors have retooled and rebuilt themselves as a younger team with core pieces in place around Scottie. This is a young team but not that young. Pieces are in place where I think the team should be expected to be on an upwards trajectory next season.

So what are your expectations?

A lot of it depends on what happens with the draft his year.

If we pick in the Top 6, we could be looking for the play-in/playoffs as early as next year. If we don't pick in the Top 6, we might be in for another year of crappy basketball.

Play-in team at best. Worst case we inadvertently tank, again.....

If we don't get a top 6 pick, bottom 6 next year for sure. All the teams in the bottom six will have a top 6 pick, some teams 2 lottery picks and all of them have max money.

Wiz for sure we will be better idk abt the rest

If we keep our pick I think we make some "win-now" moves and go for a low playoff seeds.

If we convey I could see us leaning into a tank next season.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Need to see how this offseason plays out. We could potentially have two lotto picks in this draft, or just the Indy pick (and Detroit 2nd). We have a ton of capspace, which depending on how it's utilized could materially change things next season (or maybe we try the OKC route and load up on futures). Don't think we'll see any significant trades (unless if Yak is moved). Assuming the draft/free agency don't lead to any big changes for the roster next season, my guess is we'll be in a similar situation, maybe more firmly in the play-in picture.

Right now, I think they're probably in the same spot but it's too early to say. We'll see who they draft and what they decide to do with that cap space via FA or trades.

Stability.

We only have 4 rotation guys that been here since the start of this season.

Next year, let's hppe for at least a full lineup worth of rotation players

We need to try tanking for Cooper Flagg. I doubt it though, I guess Barrett and IQ look better. Barnes and Dick improve. We overpay and sign a FA like Monk. We draft high floor players with 18th, and 31st.

Poeltl - Olynyk
Barnes - 31st
Barrett - Agbaji
Monk - Dick
IQ - 16th

Darko also likely gets fired midseason

Will be bad again, especially if we keep Darko around, which is why I'd rather give the pick this year to Spurs.

A top 6 pick in 2024 doesn’t move the needle for next year. There’s no prospect who’s stepping in and changing the projection of this team in 2025. The top prospects are all really young and raw imo.

Darko is our Brett Brown. He’ll be here until at least 2026. Guy is too nice to fire for a roster that is built to not be competitive yet.

Likely the same. If we give up the pick this year, i see more aggressive tanking next year but i don't think it will make that much of a difference since the we're going to have the same core next year.

I'm guessing a 7-10th worst in the league, maybe a little worse if we sell at the next deadline.

Exactly, a rookie very rarely makes an impact in their first year. If Wemby can't improve the spurs' record, no 2024 rookie is going to take us to the playoffs next year.

It has more to do with the 2025 pick than anything. If we keep our pick we have no reason to be bad in 2025. That means we probably sign some vets in the off-season, plus a top 6 pick might not be ready to be a starter but they likely are ready to be a bench contributor.
