Post#1 » by BestintheEast » Mon Nov 19, 2007 5:50 pm

.....i am getting increasingly disgruntled with Chicago Sports!!!! why did we trade a proven 18 game winner 28yr old Jon Garland for a 33yr old shortstop? especially since we re-upped Uribe....WTF Kenny

I think they traded Garland because they knew they couldn't afford him in free agency next year. I hope they have another trade lined up because this doesn't make sense. Our rotation just got even weaker and this trade moves either Danny or Uribe(who we just re-signed)to the bench.

Well seems everyone is pissed off at this trade. The Sox and Angels fans both. Lets look at the positives and negatives.

Positives

1. Top of the lineup hitter. We really need that
2. Very good defense
3. Garland was not going to be resigned
4. Much better hitter than Uribe.
5. Fan favorite big time hustle player. We will love this guy I promise you that
6. Small speed upgrade
7. Frees up some cash which can be spent elsewhere.
8. Contract year which could be good numbers in the cell.
9. If we lose him Cabrera will most likely be a type A free agent so picks will come in return

Negatives

1. Hurts the rotation. Garland was an innings eater that helped the bullpen
2. Hurts the bullpen. Younger pitchers wont eat the innings which means more work from a crap pen.
3. We got older.
4. Cabrera only signed for 1 year. Will we resign him?
5. What do we do with Uribe? / Richar?

As of right now Id say this trade hurts us more than it helps us but I will wait to see what else KW has up his sleeve. That article says he is not done and close to landing a "big fish" . As it stands the trade doesnt seem to make much sense. One thing for sure is we will all love OC this year. Is it worth it for 1 year and the rotation and bullpen take another hit? We will see I guess.

Uribe is trash anyways.

Its also a move to make Cap room to sign T-Hunter apparently

I am understanding the move a little more now that I've heard KW...he said this is the 1st move of many so I understand a little more. Cabrera and Hunter would sure up the defense up the middle.

I still don't understand why we re-signed Uribe if we were going to trade for Cabrera. That's 4.5 million or so we could have used on bullpen help or another area of need. I also don't like the rotation....I don't have confidence in any one besides Buehrle and Vazquez. I'm pretty sure Contreras will suck and I'm not high on Floyd at all but I do think Danks and Gio(if he starts) could have decent years. This is not a playoff caliber rotation until proven otherwise.

Kenny Williams had better find another option fast, since Hunter is going to the Angels. As a Cubs and White Sox fan, I wouldn't trade a proven pitcher away. Honestly, he should have tried to move some of the hitters for other hitters.

FIRE KENNY WILLIAMS. He really dint do anything to improve our team since winning the world series. the sox won it because of great chemistry and heart. Kenny took all of it ass soon as he dealt Rowand. What has he really done to improve the sox this year????? Sign Linebrink?who in the world is that? i guess the sox were the only stupid team to give him 15 mill. over a 3 yr span... or garland for cabrera. what in the world is that. Kenny Williams knows that he messed up trading
Iguchi and Rowand. Thats why he cant sign then, because he will prove they are high quality players but common u pick Carlos Quentin over Rowand and Hunter. The has have gotten bitch slapped around all offseason long. The sox missing out on Torrie Hunter, Miguel Cabrera to the CENTRAL DIVISION RIVAL DETROIT TIGERS. Losing out on Rowand. Man GO INDIANS AND TIGERS. FIRE KENNY WILLIAMS.
