Re: I'm BACKKKKKKKK!!: The Steve Clifford Thread
It's been a nice 3 game winning streak, but one was against a bad Memphis team, a fringe play in team in Atlanta and a Pacers team that has scuffled of late. I'm not overrating those wins.
We're also assuming in some sense that what Cliff is doing with this lineup is special -- it's not to say a different coach wouldn't employ guys the same way. I've been through two tenures of Steve Clifford, he is who he is at this point, and I personally am ready to move on.
We have a fresh approach in the FO, why would we keep a holdover coach? Especially one known for mediocrity over top end success? Let's continue with the renaissance.

Also on the hold your horses approach, these games were right before the ASB where a lot of guys already have vacations on their mind.
If we have a big winning percentage post-ASB, we'll see.

It’s a pretty big red flag that a group of guys that have never even practiced together or under you have immediately 10x better chemistry than any lineup you’ve rolled out in years. There’s a talent difference, but it should be pretty apparent next week if they start acclimating to any alleged stale Cliffordball

Re: I'm BACKKKKKKKK!!: The Steve Clifford Thread
cliff's saving grace to me is not that all of a sudden the team looks competent, but that the players still support him. it was never cliff's fault that mitch and MJ left him with a bench that should have been in the g-league for two straight years, or never signed a real backup point guard or left him with no 3rd string center after kai went nuts, or the insane amount of injuries.
but... cliff ain't the answer. we have6 years of cliff to know he's not the answer. thanks to cliff for jumping on the grenade two years ago. move him to the front office or something.

Re: I'm BACKKKKKKKK!!: The Steve Clifford Thread
I see Clifford as a caretaker through the second half. There's been significant upheaval in the wake of transfer of ownership. The playbook is 12 pages. The remaining players need some form of and feel for continuity, building on something rather than trashing everything that has been built. He always seems very kind.
It's great he just outcoached Carlisle (NBA title) and Snyder in recent victories.
Even greater the defense held two top-10 offenses in check.
But I don't think he moves the needle. He just earns less money than all the other coaches who don't move the needle.
If I'm the incoming owners, I check with leadership advisory, Mitch Kupchak. If they were to consult Kupchak, he'd probably give a thumbs up on exercising Clifford's option year on his contract.
But they should and will consult the new GM and other high level official(s).
I think part of resetting the culture after 2 years under Clifford, losses aside, is just removing the stink of it all.
There are some good coaches out there who may be better for this new roster instead of Clifford.
He may even remain with the organization in his own advisory role.
The buyers/new owners seem pleased about the product they purchased. They seem to appreciate the work invested.
I think Cliff gets a golden parachute. He leads the team in career wins. Can't kick his ass on the way out the door.
Tempting though.

Not falling for the trap. Sure we looked better since the trade, but we need a more modern HC. Clifford is about defense, we have more of a scoring roster. We need to upgrade HC.

No need to get triggered, guy
I think Cliff has been given more than enough leash. No successful results based organization would look at 6 years of bad results and go "yeah... let's keep doing that"

You can't be serious with Clifford. Like comeon guys.
Same with Mitch. You guys have stockholm syndrome. The Hornets haven't made the playoffs in Mitch's tenure and have one of the worst records in the league this year. Clifford still has one of the worst point differentials this season in NBA history. Like be serious guys.

How much can these guys know as far as X's and O's in our system. He probably just told them to get out there and feel it out and it's the best basketball we have seen all year.
