Re: Get SAS a PG
Simmons would be at least a good role player if he would stop jumping away from the basket to shoot his silly running hook shots on layup attempts.

Re: Get SAS a PG
Simmons has only one more year on his deal. If he looks physically healthy for the rest of the season...he might be just the kind of project Pop would relish. SAS is in no hurry, Simmons, at worst, contributes to another tank season while Wemby grows. At best, Pop just rehabbed a still young, former All-NBA 6'10 freight train of a PG that could actually be an amazing defensive complement to Wemby's otherworldly rim-protection.
They just might be on a timeline that makes it a worthy prospect. I assume BRK would only want salary relief, no real sacrifice for SAS. I don't see a reason to get an old guy like Conley, who would be solid for Wemby's (and the other kids') development, but not impactful enough to move the team needle very far and certainly not for very long.

Brett Brown was and is quite close with Simmons and Pop is on record as being a fan. Pop would back himself and the organization to get him right.
The defensive fit with Simmons and Wemby is perfect. Just a matter of whether Simmons wants to drive the lane ever again.
Ben Simmons is broken beyond repair, having a mental blockage like his is harder to overcome than an amputated leg. His NBA career is done the second his contract runs out, he's just trying to milk every penny playing as little basketball as possible, and no team is going to be dumb enough to trade for him unless heavily compensated. The Spurs are not a charity, don't expect them to be any different.
Your hot takes on Simmons aside, players with his resume get continual chances in this league. It’s one year and $37m to see if there’s something there, if any team is going to do it it’s going to be the Spurs. Simmons played his best under Brown who is on the staff. Spurs have the cap space and punted it last offseason, if they miss out on Young and whoever they absolutely could kick the tires on Simmons.
Here’s a quote from Pop on Simmons (regarding shooting): “It would enhance his game, obviously. That can’t be argued with. But all of his physical skills, basketball skills, the way he understands the game, as unselfish as he is — he’s so elite already, who gives a damn if he can’t shoot.”
I get he has a mental block around feee throw shooting but he’s still an excellent player at all the other stuff.
I don't know what you mean by "hot take", there's 3 years of evidence he can't play. You can't chalk up his demise to random chance, there's something very fundamentally wrong with him and everyone knows this.
That quote you bring out of thin air is 1) almost 3 years old 2) not necessarily truthful (more politically correct) 3) Ignores that not only hasn't Simmons learned how to shoot, he forgot how to do anything he was once good at
No GM in their right mind would bet on Ben Simmons. If I knew you I'd be willing to bet you good money on this knowing I'd easily win, but this is an internet forum, so I guess simply suggesting you revisit this claim of yours a year from now to learn something should suffice.

Crikey, this is an Internet forum where we speculate on possible trades and transactions. I never once claimed Simmons to SA will happen and of course it probably won’t, like almost all ideas posted here, but simply pointed out the connections and Pop’s prior history with Simmons.
I can tell you haven’t watched him play recently because Simmons is still a great passer and a great defender, so please watch some tape before electing yourself the expert analyst on a player. Simmons has serious flaws but you’re not being honest or objective.
Also, lol at claiming the quote was “pulled from thin air” when you then go on to confirm it is in fact real.
Anyway, let’s leave this here.
