I’ve always found Melo’s career interesting. He had the IQ and skillset to play a different way. Wonder what happens if he is drafted to a different organization.

I wouldn't normally defend Melo, but when you first words are bascially "Your ceiling is 6MOY", that's **** leadership from Karl and just kind of obtuse when judging a 21 year old that was All-NBA, ROY, and MIP.

I actually feel for Melo here. Karl was definitely a d bag that never got along with his players, and I think it definitely put a ceiling on what his teams were able to accomplish. Like Melo said, he was only 21 when Karl joined the team, and Karl was a big name coach. He could have easily taken a more paternal role as far as guiding him and teaching him the game, and I think that would have gone a long way in terms of unlocking his potential.

OTOH, it’s clear that Melo doesn’t have great insight. He blames Karl for the “narrative” that he likes to shoot more than play defense, and although he wasn’t a guy that never played defense, that IS the story of his career. I mean, we have his whole career on film, can anyone honestly argue that for the most part, Melo was not a shoot first player that focused the right amount of energy towards defense? It’s not like the guy played noticeably better defense throughout his career, he was still an underwhelming defender for the most part who had short bursts of great defense that just reminded people what he could be if he focused on it more.
