That’s a pretty good deal for the Wolves IMO.

Great news, and at a very reasonable number!

Conley is #22 in Win Shares, if that’s your thing.

Surprised they got this one done early. Good deal for Minny though. I guess Conley didn't want to go anywhere.

You nailed it. Right after Conley got traded to Minnesota a year ago, he said that he hoped was the last team he played on. He bought a house, and moved his family to MIN last summer, after school got out for his kids. And the team has been trying to foster that view, nicknaming him “Minnesota Mike” early in the season.

More on Minnesota life, if you’re interested:

Spoiler:
As an aside, MIN is kind of an odd destination. There are many players, particularly from the South, that view Minnesota as Siberia, and west coast announcers always present it that way. Question three when they interview anyone that goes to MIN is “Do you have a good coat?” On the other hand, (and Smitty mentioned this a few months ago), that for whatever reason, once players live in Minnesota, they often want to stay there. Nine months a year it is beautiful, with lakes, kind people (fit for polite Mike!), the downtown life that Prince championed, great schools, white collar jobs, etc. And in the winter, the entire downtown is linked with a skyway, so if a player drove from heated garage at home to a heated garage downtown, they wouldn’t even need that coat. MIN has had just as many problems getting players to come as they have had getting players to leave. ::shrug::

That's a good deal for both, depends on all NBA status of ANT, they may be able to stay below 2nd Apron next year.

That's a huge win for the Wolves. I was expecting a Conley extension to be in the ballpark of $15M/year.

Big fan of this for the Wolves. At that number, if he’s half as effective on court it’s still ok. And now they have their tenured veteran for a couple more years.

Great for both parties. They can resign Monte & McLaughlin in the offseason, too, and between Conley-Morris-NAW-McLaughlin have a solid enough point guard rotation for under $30 million (which hopefully offsets having $105 million tied up in centers : O).

It's also shocking how many random celebrities have lake homes up here, over the years Clooney, Decaprio, almost everyone from Master P's crew, Winona Ryder, etc have all bought lake homes on random isolated lakes.

really nice day for Wolves fans. Now the only question remaining is the budget. This pretty much locks them into being a second apron team so will it cost them SloMo/Morris or will they just YOLO the payroll?

I think SloMo is as good as gone. I think, they think they can get enough out of Leonard Miller off the bench next year as to make Kyle expendable.

My guess would be that Morris gets extended and Anderson isn't back. Morris is an upgrade to the PG minutes SloMo has been playing and the Wolves have young guys in Minott/Miller who look like the long term answer to fill the bench SF/PF minutes. I'm really hoping that Minnesota pays the necessary tax in 2024-25 and then assesses where they are at after that season.

Minny have some tough decisions in the offseason.

How far they go in playoffs makes the decisions easier for sure though.

When would Minny hit the repeater?

Since 2024-2025 would count as the Wolves first season in the luxury tax, they would have 2 more years (2025-2026 and 2026-2027) before the repeater tax would kick in. With Gobert's contract expiring after 2025-26, the team has reasonable flexibility to avoid ever paying repeater level taxes.

Also - sometimes you hit a point in your career where you have made enough money and last dollar isn't everything. Conely has been in the league for 17 years and has made somewhere in the ballpark of $274 Million over the course of his career. Is this deal slightly lower than he could have gotten elsewhere this summer, sure. Same can be said with Al Horford last year.

This is great for Minny. Still even though this is a bargain that roster will be expensive

Absolute steal. Congrats, Minny.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
