Trading back is even worse because this year's 20 ish picks are most years 40's and 50's. I really hope we move this pick. I'm not sure for who, but I think it's gotta be at least considered. Who would you guys think like to see as a Hornet via this pick?

Agreed.

Especially if we drop back a few spots. Might as well see what we can get for that pick. I was only a fan of 2 players from this draft Risacher and Williams. They both look to be top 5 picks currently.

I would shop that pick hard if it doesn't land in the top 5.

I'm kinda hoping on markannen. I think a move like that would propel us forward.

Nah wrong player and wrong team.

Ainge reportedly wants 3 future 1st + a young player for Markkanen.

If we trading all that it needs to be for a real star.

Yeah a long wing is really the only pick that makes sense after the trade deadline. But, if the team is worried long term about the health of Mark Williams, then maybe Alex Sarr starts to come in conversation. I think the team might be interested in Nikola Topic too but I think Collier might sneak back into top 10 talk after his recent play.

I don’t want us to move the pick unless it’s multiple future picks or future pick plus young talent. Small market teams that do well acquire assets and we aren’t at a point yet we’re we want to unload those assets for that next level guy.

I wish Stephen Curry would come out and say he wants to play here. That could change a lot of things for the better. I do believe that’s a possibility sooner than later.

In a new Mock Draft posted today on ESPN+ Givony/Woo have the Hornets selecting Matas Buzelis at #4
1. Wizards: Zaccharie Risacher
2. Pistons: Alex Sarr
3. Spurs: Rob Dillingham
4. Hornets: Matas Buzelis
5. Blazers: Cody Williams
6. Raptors: Nicola Topic
7. Grizzlies: JaKobe Walter
8. Rockets: Tidjane Salaun
9. Thunder: Kyle Filipowski
10. Hawks: Ron Holland

Givony says "Buzelis is peaking at the right time"
After missing the first three months of the G League season with ankle injuries, Buzelis was slow out of the gates but has been playing his best basketball of late. He's shooting 39% from 3 over his past 10 games, has transformed himself from being a poor defender to being extremely impactful on and off the ball, and is soaking up increased usage successfully with ball-dominant Ron Holland now sidelined for the season with a thumb injury.

Buzelis was on a major platform this past weekend at the Rising Stars game, where he was able to match up with Oklahoma City's Chet Holmgren, Charlotte's Brandon Miller and many other of the NBA's most talented young players. He showed his passing creativity, shot-making prowess, defensive playmaking instincts and all-around aggressiveness attacking opponents consistently -- even hitting a game-winning turnaround jumper to advance to the championship game.

Being able to showcase his tremendous size, improving frame and intriguing versatility on both ends of the floor was a major opportunity for Buzelis, something that will likely stick with the many NBA executives in attendance ahead of the pre-draft process.

Having weighed 185 pounds exactly a year ago, Buzelis is now at 205, which has unlocked some added explosiveness and an ability to initiate and play through contact more effectively on both ends of the floor. Buzelis is always looming as a weakside rim-protector and is doing a much better job of getting in a low stance, turning his hips and sliding his feet on the perimeter, staying down on fakes and showing impressive instincts staying attached to opponents.

His shot-creation prowess is something teams want to see him continue to make strides with, as he's been somewhat of a mixed bag operating out of pick-and-roll and in isolation, not always able to beat defenders cleanly off the bounce and finish what he creates, due to his lack of strength. Buzelis' jumper has been streaky -- he's 22-for-84 from 3 in 26 games -- but has been on an upward trajectory, showing clean mechanics, a high release and confidence with his shot-making prowess, something teams will be studying closely in the pre-draft process.

Buzelis was the original No. 1 prospect in our very first mock draft released one year ago, and he's putting himself back in that conversation with the way he's playing of late. He's got several more weeks to continue building momentum before his season comes to a close. He should continue to benefit from being a top offensive option for Ignite with Holland out. -- Jonathan Givony

I still like Walter even though he struggles creating off the dribble. 6'5 2 guard who shoots very well. In this kind of draft that isn't the worst thing.

Isaiah Collier is the only other player I would consider outside the top 5.

Guy can get to the basket and finish with contact. Not much of a defender, but he offers something different than Melo/Miller. Would fit in nicely at sg.

I do like Buzelis, he pretty much schooled Miller in the rookie game. Lot of Franz Wagner to his game and would fit in nicely at the 3

The scariest part about Buzelis is that he has already hurt his ankles. Hopefully new medical staff changes hornets luck

I can't believe I'm saying this, but we need a loss. Some of this board is getting out of hand over a 3 game win streak.

I liked what I saw out of him too, would love another 6'10" skilled wing who can score tough shots. Would be pretty happy if we walked away with him, which is really possible since we're most likely drafting ~6 or 7.

Matas Buzelis is such a UNCNYC type of player but since most of you like him I can't be a fan :noway: :nonono:

Buzelis was off my radar, but a 6'10 shot creator has me intrigued. I will watch his highlights later. Could be a sleeper pick.

Wasn't 3pt shooting supposed to be one of Matas biggest strengths? If I'm reading these wack g-league boxscores right, he's only shot 28% from 3.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

Matas seems like Saric.

That's probably totally off base, but his upside seems to do more with his physical profile than current ability.

I think its a pipe dream for bud but it sure would be a massive move and I'd probably fanboy over it for a while.

Edit: dang it wrong thread. I saw pics of him and Miller going at it I'm rising stars. I'll gonna have to watch tape on him at some point today. I'll be back to voice what I saw and my first instincts evaluating him.

I think being afraid of going .500 the rest of the way is more than acceptable considering several factors including the inevitable Steve Clifford run that even happened last year.

The team has looked much better the last 3 games after running on spare parts most of the season. The only way to make this season worse is to put ourselves in a position to get a 10th pick instead of 5th

Buzelis is very fluid and athletic. He has a nice handle at his size, and long arms can pass and block shots. He looks better than Cody Williams in my eyes for sure. From what I've seen so far and will continue to follow his progress. I would be more than happy for him to be our pick. He has a nice little one-legged fade away that looks nice and would be hard to defend. He's the type of athlete that checks most all the boxes. Very good body control on some up and unders. He can out pressure on the rim, which is something I always look for.
