Jayson Tatum thinks he's the best player in the league

Hahahahahahahhahahahaha....

Talk about delusions of grandeur...

Someone needs to set this guy straight in the playoffs. Yeah yeah, he does it to Embiid every year. He's got a good record in the playoffs, but by no mean is he the best player in the world.

I'd argue the following are all better than him.

Embiid
Jokic
Giannis
Luka
SGA
Steph Curry
Kevin Durant
Jimmy Butler
LeBron James

It's OK for one of the top players to have self belief... in fact it's practically required for them to keep upping their game.

I'd be a lot more worried if he was saying "No, I'm really not on that tier, Embiid is so so good, I'm not there yet."

Not saying he's 100% on point but being a pro athlete and a clear no. 1 on a contender you just gotta have a certain amount of self confidence.

He's good enough to think that. Most top 20 guys believe that. Im sure a dude like Donovan Mitchell thinks he's the best too

So what? I want my best players to have overconfidence. I don't see anything wrong with this.

If you're Luke Kornet or some role player, obviously that becomes an issue but I'd rather my players have too much confidence than no confidence.

He's definitely top 10. I might disagree with him but I like his mentality. If he can win a ring this season, many will consider him the best in the league.

It takes loser energy to mock a highly skilled professional believing they are the best at the craft they've devoted their lives too. Most successful people have that belief even if they're only 10,000th best in the world, this man is somewhere in the top 20 at the absolute worst, and at his position is in the top 3, possibly the best. But even if he wasn't so lofty, again, just pathetic insecure loser energy to mock someone else that way. Socially adjusted, self aware, normal people are more likely to praise someone else's talent.

He's the best player on one of the best teams and has been to the finals in the last 2 seasons, I'd be disappointed if he didn't think he's the best player in the league. You have a certain confidence to get to that level to begin with.

Much worse players than him believe they are the best player in the world. If you got every NBA player to honestly rank themselves you would probably find 200 players who believe they are top 10

This reminds of when Paul Pierce said he thought he was the best player in the world in the offseason after winning Finals MVP.

Of course everyone reacted, but the train of thought from players who are living out these experiences (rather than objective couch potatoes) isn't hard to understand.

I don’t think the Celtics think he is the best player in the league. They ship him out for like 5 other players, without much thought.

I'm not a fan of Tatum or Boston but there is no problem with him thinking that. I'd disagree, but he is close enough to being there. Quite frankly he needs to have that kind of self confidence and it would be concerning for him not to think that imo.

If he didnt think like this then i doubt he would put the Celtics over the top this season. 2 years ago i think Ime started to bring this out of him and that crazy run they had in the 2nd run and run to the finals was Tatum was either the best player on the court or matched his counterparts. From what i remember i think the only star that out played him in thst stretch was Luka and Curry in the finals

So 5 players will not be available so he's pretty close to being the best player in the league.
