Jalen Green was picked 2nd overall in the 2021 draft and has been terrible all three years in Houston. He's extremely explosive, but his BBIQ is so poor that he's been one of the least helpful players in the NBA, scoring with terrible efficiency while contributing nowhere else. He's still young enough to develop into a Zach LaVine like player potentially, but he has not really improved since entering the league and has been so bad that his wins above replacement player is... negative 0.66 for his career. The Rockets' organization and fans seem completely done with him and seem to want to move on.

Not sure any team wants to pay his next contract. Maybe he will turn it around but HOU was a dumpster fire for a few years prior to this season.

Good to see HOU has turned it around and if HOU doesn’t see him as a part of their future that should speak volumes about his real value.

I'd offer a first, but certainly not a premium one. Maybe the 2nd best first in 2025 between ours, Cleveland, and Minnesota, but top 8 protected (otherwise they get the worst). I think some team who is rebuilding should offer a useful veteran for him and see if he can be developed.

Dont see much value. He is a 1 way guy who has terrible efficiency and hasnt developed since coming into the league. I dont see how his archetype is really any different than a Herro, Simons or Clarkson type - a shorter than you prefer turnstyle scorer but in Green's case a bad shooter as well.

A few acrobatic plays per month doesnt change who he is on the court.

Maybe a more interesting offer from Utah could be Sexton. Not sure I'd do it, but it is at least moving a very undersized 2 who can play some point guard for a much less undersized 2 with some hypothetical upside. Ultimately, though, I think Sexton will have the better career.

Depends on where each one lands in the lottery, but if it's not a huge gap (say, a couple of spots or so) then I could see something like that happenng. Jalen Green isn't someone I'm super enthusiastic about, but at the point they're at it makes more sense for the Hornets to take a gamble on him than the Rockets. So maybe.

I like the idea of Houston trading up and resetting the rookie contract on a new young guard.

The specific draft positions would matter obviously, but I could see Washington, Toronto, or Charlotte considering a deal around that.

I thought Jalen was going to make a big jump this year with the coaching change. But, as OP said, his BBIQ is not impressive. Not sure if it is confidence, youth (just turned 22) or that he is not going to get it. Still, his driving and moves are some of the best - especially for someone so young. So, Rockets are probably stuck riding it out - and not dealing him form some average value player.

The only way I see the Rockets moving him instead of waiting to see if he gets it together - - is in a deal for an almost star or higher ranked player or a high value pick swap:
- example of pick swap: Pick#8 and JGreen for pick #4 if Rox needed to move up for Ja'Kobe Walter.
- example of player: the Mikal rumors.

Rockets Needs:
C: Sengun is solid and will have Adams next year so very solid.
PF: Jabari is young but solid. Eason can play both forward slots and will get minutes also. So, solid and deep.
SF: Brooks is good. Whitmore looks like a scoring machine. Tate is a solid backup. Factor in some Eason minutes and overloaded.
PG: Vleet is solid and will hand off to AmenT. Solid.
SG: Jalen and not much else (with Green not developing and Porter being dealt due to assault).

The way I see it:
- a big hole at SG (unless Green does a major turnaround).
- Wouldn't mind a pf/c big body to defend star bigs.
- a superstar. Seriously, every team wants one or wants another one.
- players to develop to replace Vleet/Brook/Adams in one to three years (not really a focus for now).

So, Green could be packaged for a star or almost star:
Green + #8 (BKN 2024) + BKN 2026 + 2028 HOU 1st (protected top 5) + outgoing salary (or cap space - up to $31 mil or so if not renewing options on Landale/Tate/JeffGreen).
I think Trae would work well: Trae for Vleet (to a third team?) + Green + BKN 2024 + BKN 2026 + 2028 HOU 1st (protected top 5).
Other stars could be in the mix. SG would be best fit but a star is a star. Booker would be the best fit but I doubt he is available. Mikal fits the system (interchangeable defense with multiple switchable players that can also hit from outside on offense). But, a Mitchell or LaVine might be a cheap alternative to add scoring.

I think the draft pick swap is most likely.

Don't get why people seem to insist Cam is a forward when he can play either two or three just fine, think most likely scenario whether Jalen's on the team or not is Cam or Amen are starting next to Fred next year. Should probably happen now but they seem to not want to rock the boat right now.

Think they have a top 8 ready to go in
FVV/Amen/Cam/Brooks/Eason/Bari/Sengun/Adams.
Throw in Reed Sheppard or something with a top ten pick via BKN and there's 9 and still have the mle.

Don't see the point in trading Jalen for just some SG because of that. Would preferably include him in a consolidation trade like you mentioned or for a pick with unlikely but possible upside like a distant Minny or Cleveland pick from Utah if they feel it's just best for everyone if the two sides move on

Why does him being big matter?? He can guard guards and he can shoot and get his way to the rim. Passing is bad for a two guard but that's less of a concern when your center is a great passer and a lot of offense goes through him. I don't see any valid reason he can't play the two for this team and he's effectively been Jalen's backup since he got into the rotation
Cam is a 3/2 who can play some 4 if you're going small based on what I've seen from him

I assume you mean the Spurs are moving OUT Sochan (former no. 9 pick the Spurs really like) AND some of the most promising picks they own (Atlanta's own unprotected), for... VanVleet?
I don't think the Spurs are willing to move those Atlanta picks or Sochan, but if they are it's to get Trae for themselves, not to gift wrap him to a division rival. It's like this proposal pretends the Spurs should look after the Rockets best interest rather than their own. Totally clueless.

Charlotte have a decent young core and a big hole at SG. Maybe they want try to develop him. The picks swap for Green seems like a solid deal for both teams.

Other than Charlotte maybe Utah would gamble on his upside but I don't like him to them, they alread have too many guards that can't defend and are not very smart but can score.

Chicago for LaVine could be something as well, but I don't like it for Houston, but if they just want to save face, that's a possibility. They may be able to get Caruso with LaVine for a Green + fillers.
