Jayson Tatum thinks he's the best player in the league

Tatum is the best player on by far the best team in the NBA and has been First Team All-NBA two years in a row, possibly headed for a third this year. He set the record for points in a Game 7 last year and has had some epic playoff performances, most notably that dominant 2022 Game 6 in Milwaukee, which is more than I can say for a lot of his peers.

I can live with the confidence and the braggadocio when you’re on the best team. But he must understand that it’s title or bust when you start talking like this.

If you’re going to talk like you’re the best player on the league, and you’ve got the best team in the league around you as well, then you need to win the championship to be taken seriously.

Someone needs to set this guy straight in the playoffs. Yeah yeah, he does it to Embiid every year. He's got a good record in the playoffs, but by no mean is he the best player in the world.

I'd argue the following are all better than him.

Jokic
Giannis
Luka
SGA
Steph Curry
Kevin Durant
Jimmy Butler
LeBron James

I didn't say that. You said, "In no world is he better than the other players I've listed in my top 7." He's very clearly better than Embiid, and it hasn't been close when you look at their postseason performances.

He's been better in the playoffs and much worse for a higher number of regular season games. And by better, it's only offensively. Defensively Embiid is one of the best in the league in the playoffs and regular season.

So offensively and defensively Embiid is better in the regular season. Offensively in the playoffs Tatum has been better. Defensively Embiid.

You wanna go by playoff history for Embiid. He's been injured in the majority of seasons, so again not sure why you can not take that into account.

Tatum comes up big at times in the playoffs, but he has always had a far better supporting cast. This season you can argue the Celtics are a super team.

It takes loser energy to mock a highly skilled professional believing they are the best at the craft they've devoted their lives too. Most successful people have that belief even if they're only 10,000th best in the world, this man is somewhere in the top 20 at the absolute worst, and at his position is in the top 3, possibly the best. But even if he wasn't so lofty, again, just pathetic insecure loser energy to mock someone else that way. Socially adjusted, self aware, normal people are more likely to praise someone else's talent.

I still don’t think there’s anything wrong with this. To normal basketball fans, he clearly isn’t the best player in the league but we’re talking about the man himself.

He’s top 5 in MVP voting so it’s not like he’s some random scrub. To be a top line player in the NBA, you have to have irrational confidence in your abilities. Do you think Tatum should enter a playoff game against Giannis or Embiid and say to himself ‘I’m not the best player on the floor tonight’?

Every single player has those games - especially guys who shoot 3’s at volume. Tell me you’re fav player and I’ll show you plenty of those types of playoff games from them. Heck, Jimmy Butler averaged 14 points a game on 29% in a first round series only 2 seasons ago yet he has this “playoff Jimmy” mantra which is absolute BS.

Even Jokic who is one of the most efficient players we’ve ever seen, went 8-29 in a playoff game last season.

He hasnt had a good/legendary playoff run. If anything its been okay/slighy below average

Tatum had a 50 point game in game 7. Butler had a great 2020 finals but that's really the only edge he has in post season resume
