Suns' retool if they do poorly in the postseason
Suns out: Player selected with 2024 Suns draft pick, unprotected 2031 draft pick, all 5 owned second round picks, Jusuf Nurkic
Suns in: Jalen Duren, Landry Shamet, Corey Kispert
Why for the Pistons? Duren is an awful defender, but has all-defense potential. The Suns have almost no doors left open to them and banking on a 21 year old learning how to defend under Vogel is probably their best option. Nurkic is then moved for depth.
Pistons out: Jalen Duren
Pistons in: Nassir Little, player selected with 2024 Suns draft pick, unprotected 2031 draft pick
Why for the Pistons? Ausar Thompson must play center on offense with four players stretching the court around him. Duren is a DeAndre Jordan type center who will never be able to do this. This return is probably about as good as they can get for Duren.
Wizards out: Landry Shamet, Corey Kispert
Wizards in: 5 seconds, Jusuf Nurkic
Taking in bad money to get second round picks.

Is this 2017? Small ball gimmick ball is dead. Double big is the new meta.

What are you talking about?
Nurkic can't move so he's food in the postseason.
You need a center who is both strong and mobile and Nurkic is not.
Duren is extremely strong and extremely mobile, he just has no idea how to play yet.

Pistons I dont think would be interested in this. Duren is part of the core and one of the few players Detroit should build around. I agree Duren and Thompson is a tough fit, but if i had to pick one id choose to keep Duren.

Talking about the OP's plan of having Ausar Thompson play center.

He has to play center on offense and SF on defense and the Pistons need a stretch 5 similar to Myles Turner or Porzingis.
Ausar cannot play any other position on offense than as a rim runner next to four shooters.
This is, of course, not ideal at all, but it's either that or have the 5th overall pick be an anchor to your team.

I thought Detroit liked Duren. Why would they trade him?

No reason for DET to consider this.
Why is DET trading a promising young big man for a ham and egger and unimpressive picks?

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Ausar Thompson has to take Duren's role on offense or Ausar can't play in the NBA.

I would rather move Thompson than Duren. Just think it is the wrong direction.

If Ausar develops a reliable jump shot, he'll have a long, productive career. If not, he's a fringe player in any teams rotation.
There's just no chance Detroit moves Duren to play Ausar at C
And both players are at least a couple of seasons from finding their level with plenty of opportunity to do so in Detroit, but if Detroit had to choose one, I'd go with Duren.
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Big point being ignored…Ausur is big-for a guard. No team in the league that won’t bully him at C. Maybe I’m missing something but the OP seems completely irrational (outside of “we want Duren for us”)

He would not play center on defense, just offense. He has to play center on offense to survive in the NBA. He needs a stretch 5 like Porzingis. Duren can't shoot.

Wiz have a lot of 2nds, will take a 1st to get Kispert. Now, if you want to send us 2nds for Shamet, fine.

Not much to move with. But couldnt they sign that level of players as fa since they are fa drstination atm? Think they only retool if KD asks out

Re: Suns' retool if they do poorly in the postseason
I think it’s an easy no from the Wizards and most likely an easy no from the Pistons. While I disagree that Kispert would get a 1st if I was the Wiz I’d rather just have a competent NBA player versus a bunch of 2nds and saving money.

The Pistons would never do this regardless of Ausar Thompson being a C in offense or not.
