100% revolves around the ability to shoot the 3. There is nothing else to even consider, even with a shoddy defense. They are on their usual path of shooting 25% from 3 once the calendar hits February.

I hate to be one of the meatball fans asking why some obscure trend is happening and blaming it vaguely on coaching, it's probably more that defenses figure them out during the season or something, but other than the halted season of 2019-2020 where they caught fire to win the conference regular season, they torpedo from 3 from February 1 on. I don't get it.

I guess looking back to the beginning of the Gard era, they were also fine in the Koenig era. I do have some hope that maybe some of these 3s start falling and suddenly they are a top 15 team again. Sometimes there is little explanation to the variance over a season.

Greg Gard made this dude into the National Player of the Year. Witness the post-Gard reality:

Have to admit, I find this video mesmerizing.

I feel like most here knew it, so I just don't understand what GMs or scouts saw in him. I mean I didn't think he was THAT bad, but he definitely should not have been a first rounder, not to mention high lotto pick.

I thought he was going to be at minimum useful. He was a great rebounder. The ball just seemed to find him. Figured without defenses keying on him, he wouldn't have to work so hard at scoring. And he always played hard.

And the jump from freshman to sophomore was huge. Thought there still was room to grow.

Figured he was UW's best prospect since Harris. Oh well.

Same boat. Seemed like he should've been a 2nd round flier. And then whatever they did to his shooting form only broke him more. His confidence tanked, and now he's a shell. He was a bit undersized for the NBA too. Tough to see but at least he made some great money because of his pick and can go overseas and dominate.

I mean look at Dekker. Another prospect I thought would be average at best in the NBA, exactly that happened (maybe a little worse), and now he's winning chips in London.

I think both Dekker and Davis are pretty simple answers: They can't shoot 3s. End of discussion. That's 99% of NBA basketball.

I can't claim to actually watch Davis play in the NBA in his limited time. Obviously the fact that he can't just physically blow past guys like he could in college makes it so he can't win in other ways - but he still probably can physically match up and play there/hold is own. He just hits 24% of the 3s he takes. Dekker 28%. So they're useless to the NBA unless they are absolutely dominant in some other way (they aren't).

They're average/below average guard/wings that can't do the most important thing in the game well.

With this (undersized) ultimately killing the 'good rebounder' bit. You need to be REAL good to translate to the NBA at that size. I think, for example, Josh Hart translated well because he's built like a truck and he'll muscle with guys in the post - which Johnny doesn't have and didn't do to accumulate his boards.

It sucks. I wanted him to succeed, surely. I just didn't see it.

If I'm being honest, the Peacock broadcasts LOOK fantastic. I just hate that it's on Peacock, where I can't press one button to jump to another channel (like Bally WI tonight for the Bucks).

Cannot make a 3. This is one of the worst shooting teams in the NCAA that got hot in December/half of January.

Oof. They are going to go from #6 in the country to like an 8 seed in the tournament.

Actually might be worse then that. They are going to lose to Ill and Purdue, so 19-12 and the 5 or 6 seed in the big ten tournament. Maybe that gets them one win?

Yup, feels more and more like it. Our run appears to be really tightly tied to Max playing like Kobe Bryant for a month.

Crowl is really struggling with just catching the ball today. Ugly game for him so far.

Indiana is gonna run out of gas early in the second half. Keep it close and pull away in the last 10 minutes

Really weird scene - they're evacuating the area. Sounds like a fire alarm is going off.

Edit, no reason listed yet

Of course you hope everyone is safe but Indiana was getting tired. This helps them
