Worst Tradeable Contracts

Post#1 » by Hoppy1 » Fri Feb 23, 2024 5:41 pm

Because of the Jordan Poole discussion, it brings me to think about the worst contracts entering 24/25 and who, if any, would be willing to take these off the current teams' hands. And if so, what would an offer look like,

Bem Simmons $38M but only 1 year left
Zach LaVine $40MM for another 3 years
Michael Potter Jr $34M (not that he is a bad player, but too much money for his 16pts/8b) 3 more years but part of the Nuggets core
Draymond Green $22M for all the trouble he brings, but a bargain compared to the cost of B. Simmons for similar numbers
Khris Middleton $30M payment for previous ability, 2 more years
Zion Williamson $35M 4 more years, ballooning to $45M for a guy who cannot stay healthy
Bradley Beal $47M and rising for the 4 years. He is no longer the star and he is 30 years old now.
Deandre Ayton $33M for another 2 years
Jerami Grant $30M to be the #2b on a bad team, with another 4 years of salary
John Collins $25M for another 2 years is not horrible, but overpaid.
And of course Jordan Poole $30M for a 6th man, soon to be 7th, then 8th,... for another 3 years.

Is there anyone there you would be willing to trade for?
I could see maybe Ben Simmons/Nic Claxton for Simons/Ayton, might need to be 2 trades with a S&T of Claxton for around $20M.

I would do the BKN/POR trade in a heartbeat for POR. BKN should not consider it without incentive.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Why would Claxton agree to that

Claxton smart enough to realize the Nets are going nowhere with the current makeup. Willingness to wait on Donovan Mitchell is a risky bet.
Portland gets off Ayton, finally moves Simons.

I think there's a big difference between the Zach LaVine/Jerami Grant types who are overpaid but still highly productive players and the John Collins/Jordan Poole types who are empty stats/negative impact guys who are also making big money.

Brad Beal is the first legitimately untradeable contract in the last decade or so. There's no possible team that would want him that he would agree to be traded to and the Suns have no assets to dump him even if he did.

Jordan Poole is 2nd worst as he is awful, but he would be dumpable if the Wizards attached picks (which they won't and shouldn't)

Yeah, I still think Poole is the least valuable player in the league - and Washington wouldn’t pay anything to get rid of him. But there’s not a player on that list that Washington doesn’t trade a Poole Holmes package for this offseason..

I think Zion and Dray don’t belong on the list though

And a couple others are assets. While Ben is finally an expiring and doesn’t really need to be tied to some of the other names..

But for the idea - Brooklyn shouldn’t consider taking themselves out of free agency 2025 for Simons and Ayton.

Maybe if this is after trading for a star (that Simons fits with) and Claxton is more like 25-30 than 20? I don’t think that’s Mitchell or Trae. But Brooklyn would be better off paying Claxton and trading a first for Simons than trading Claxton for Ayton

Bradley Beal had a one team trade list and Washington still got something. It wasn’t a pretty return, but I think it was worth more than just one protected first..

If Beal had a 3-5 team trade list, he’d probably be playing in NY or Miami - and Washington would have gotten a more tangible asset..

If the point is he has a NTC, then yeah. But if he asks out, some team will pay for his services again.

Collins is overpaid, but he’s not in the Jordan Poole category. They’re as different as a 60 TS% is to a 50 TS%. Collins has been relatively solid since his role change just before Christmas.

Brad Beal has gotten significantly worse this year and the hope was that Beal was just not trying hard on the Wizards. Beal won't ask out, the Suns need to move him and it's just impossible. The Wizards absolutely robbed the Suns.

Don't know if PORT just wants different guys with virtually the same situations

but

Send Ayton and Simons to the

Bulls for

Lavine, Vucevic and their protected pick back

all of the contracts run the same length, PORT gets their pick back because it still may never convey by 2028

PORT gets a scoring bump with Lavine maybe Scoot becomes the PG with an excellent catch and shoot guy to throw it to. Vucevic is maybe not as high flying as Ayton but he's a willing passer in the high or low post, 33 double doubles this year, lost his 3pt touch this year but he's always had it

Bulls pair Simons with Coby White, Ayton in the middle

Now if there was any way to turn Demar DeRozan into John Collins, with the other deal the Bulls move Patrick Williams to the 3 and they finally have a pair of actual forwards playing forward for the first time in 2-3 years. No pressure on any of those 5 to be the BIG MAN. The Bulls have turned their season around by moving the ball, making the 2 extra passes as a team offense. I think those 5 could adopt that style.

BKN can have their pick this year back for Simons. Is that enough to take on Ayton? Idk

Rockets own Nets pick and Claxton is a unrestricted free agent.

Being paid for the past. Those last couple of years on that contract are going to be brutal. He was a shell of himself last year. He's done ok this year, but he's running on fumes.

And his behavior this year isn’t going to help.

Last week, Perk suggested trading him to MIN to help in the locker room, and you just have to laugh.
