I'm concerned that Wemby will not be able to triple Hakeem's quad record by the end of his career, and will only be able to double it.

LOL. Every time I see this thread upped I go check the box score.

27/10/8/5/5 in 31 minutes.

The guy is 20 years old. Yeesh.

Edit: I said literally the same thing last page. Oops haha.

Post the stats. It’s good. Adds to the thread and will work every time.

Imagine if this guy had a great team around him. Watching him play, he was rolling in the 1st and his teammates still refused to give him the ball at times.

I'm concerned that Wembanyana won't be inducted in the HOF while still in the NBA, the same dishonor facing LeBron.

I still have no idea why Masai did not try and tank for this guy last year. Makes absolutely no sense.

I really don’t like his self creating in the half court at all and that’s always been my concern with him.

Where Phreak50 at? Is he trapped at Guantanamo Bay or something?

Lebron with some high praise. He posted a pic of them together on Instagram too. Wemby responded by posting a pic of them together as well with the same caption.

Insane. The first few months of the year were about what I expected of him for his rookie season. Typical rookie showing flashes and putting up solid numbers but struggling with efficiency and turnovers as he was thrust into a #1 option role. Thought it would take him a few years to get comfortable with the NBA and do what he’s doing now on a nightly basis. The fact that it took him just a few months to do that is incredible, and I was wrong to suggest the hype was a bit much

So are we ready to talk about him as a DPOY candidate yet, or are the advanced metric folks still against it?

Were advanced stat folk ever against it? He is candidate, but he wont win because his team still stinks.

Spurs can't even run simple PnR action with him because their personnel stink which should be an easy bread and butter play. Just imagine when he has competent teammates and a decent PG around him

He will absolutely win. I thought Chet had the edge early on but Wemby has been so far away the best rookie since then

Yeah his growth this year is way more than I expected. And his defense is even better than advertised. Had 10 blocks not too long ago and now back to back games with 5 steals and 5 blocks

What does it mean? If there's a group of people that would argue about a player from 11-46 team being in the convo for these big awards are advanced metric folks.

+6.8 D net (-0.3 rDRTG on, +6.5 rDRTG off)
2.5 DBPM (7th in the league)
3.2 DEPM (7th in the league)
9.7 BLK% (2nd in the league, 1st in raw block numbers)
2.1 STL% (2nd among big men)
54.3 DFG% at rim for >5 attempts (7th in the league)
-4.5 DFG% differential vs expected (16th in the league)
3.0 deflections (8th ex aequo, 1st among big men)
30.6 DRB% (3rd in the league)

Yeah, Wembanyama is already All-NBA D Team calibre of a defender and I guess (almost) all the metrics support such claim. Is he a DPOTY? Hard to tell, Spurs are atrocious as a team, that's by far the weakest team on positions 2- in the whole league (they're 11-46 with all-star level player, lol), so it's impossible to compare his impact to Gobert's, for example.

I think I meant because I remember some pointing out team defense issues using advanced stats against him.

It's interesting that he hasn't really racked up a lot of fouls as a rookie shot blocker.
