Not a trade, but if the Jazz waive Otto Porter Jr. by March 1, he'd be eligible to sign with any team. Dallas has a roster spot open. Wouldn't hurt to add another guy until the end of the year for the 15th spot probably.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2024 Trade thread
I know this is hypothetical, Luka would not agree with it and I will get flamed, and I am a Luka fan
IF, if, Mavs are offered Booker + Durant for Luka + THJ + filler, would you do it?
With a lineup of:
PG: Kyrie / Exum / Hardy
SG: Booker / Green
SF: Durant / DJJ
PF: PJ / Maxim
C: Lively II / Gafford / Powell
That's switching Suns big three's Beal to Kyrie, and upgrade to competent starters and great/deep bench.
Next question, IF, if you have a magic mirror and can see that this lineup will win one, and only one, championship in the next 4 years. Would you do it?

Wihout going into the merits of Brunson as a player, and without diving into the pros and cons of his contract, the simple question is did the NBA catch them colluding? Yes. Did the NBA fine them for doing so? Yes.
So whatever Brunson says today is just irrelevant. He's just trying to appear as the good guy but got caught. A wrong is a wrong no matter how much good PR and spin you put into it.
Whatever NBA caught them doing, happened AFTER the all-star break and trade deadline. And what happened before was Rick Brunson and Jalen's agent presented Mavs contract offer, TWICE..... Mavs said no to that.
Rick Brunson in an interview said they started to get fed up with Mavs and how they were treating his son. After when Jalen exploded in playoffs, Rick said his son felt he is worth more and felt dissapointed with Mavs and started looking elsewhere.
So we have to understand that there are 2 completely different timelines here and events that were happening. Funny thing is, nor Cuban or anyone else, never even spoke about this other than the fact that Brunson's camp didn't want a meeting with them in free agency. They know very well how they f*cked up.
Not necessarily f*cked up, but gambled wrong.
1. They were not willing to write checks and regret later when the team was filled with $10-20M overpaid players. Like Dinwiddie/Bertans/THJ/Powell/Bullock...
2. Brunson's previous playoffs' performance did not justify a big contract at the time
3. They were trying to make him available for trade, so did not want to add an extension to lose the flexibility
4. They thought draft team discount would be available, or could just pay fair market price as the team chemistry was not bad.
5. Rick Brunson and under table deals really happened
To blame, it would be really on Kidd and front office. It is hard for us to evaluate players based on on court performance, but Brunson's training, scrimmage, work ethics... must really be good, and they failed to tell the value and present an offer sheet before it going to DFS.

Maybe, if they throw in Beal and 3 FRPs

Poku is a mistery box just like Bol Bol, amazing skills and size but 0 impact on the game.
We don't have time to develop them.

If I'm not mistaken he's been plagued with injuries.
The thing I love about our current team is the balance of having a young team but one that is a serious contender. Poku would fit well in our long term plans and could eventually replace Maxi.

I think Beal kills the value of 3FRPs...

Bol Bol threw down 25 pts /14 rebs /1 block in 27 mins ,one game after playing the Mavs which Vogel didn't play him. Lots of fans wanted to see Poku and Holmgren play together and didn't get to see that.
Poku is similar to Bol Bol ,7' w/7'3" wingspan , both seen as alittle reckless and take bad shots but obviously have talent . I think Poku and Bol Bol would have fit in great with the Mavs team .

Mike lorenzo wrote:What a beautiful player KI is to watch, just to enjoy it I'm fine with Jalen's departure... Yes it was a burden, in commercial assets... But the KI trade was an absolute bargain... If we can somehow stay healthy We will even win your championship this year. I have a couple of questions for you. Could the backcourt be LuKai, the most talented guard combo in history? If there is a better one, please name it. Second questions, thinking about possible commercial objectives...which guys are you interested in??? Caruso?CJohnson?DFS?Wiggins?
Kyrie was a free agent this offseason, and he couldn't even command a 4-year max deal in the open market. That speaks of his value with the consideration of health. Fingers crossed that he can last more than the 1st round of the playoffs.
So theoretically, Mavs could've saved the assets, and picks and then created cap space to sign Kyrie or sign&trade him. Overall, we got an epic failure season that led us to get Lively and probably Kyrie also deepened his value. I am glad Mavs FO didn't sign him for 4+1 year extension. I hated almost all the moves from the 22-23 season (Brunson-Wood-Nets trade), but this season they have been making great moves. I didn't even mind the semi-mistakes in Grant Williams, Seth Curry because those contracts were tradeable and you sometimes gotta try. Gafford-Lively acquisitions are remarkable. Their ages and timeline fits with Luka great!
DFS, Caruso, C.Johnson would help but I dont think they'd be game changers. I am still a little worried about the quality of the wing rotation. Wiggins would be nice but he's not always focused and his salary is too high due to having 2 max in Luka-Kyrie.
* Can PJ Washington be a good defender and stay poised in playoffs? We need him to be our Aaron Gordon.
* Can Kyrie stay healthy after the 1st round? This didn't happen for the last 6-7 years.
* We would also need some rotation players to win us some games, and matchups. Maxi, THJ, Exum are capable but if we had Caruso or Dinwiddie as an extra it would be nice.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2024 Trade thread
Ideal Off-season: (Some say pie in the sky but idgaf):
1) Flip THJ to OKC:
OKC Receives: THJ (16.1M Expiring) / ‘26 1st Rd. Pick Swap / (5) 2nd Rd. Picks / ~7.1M Cash
DAL Receives: OKC Unprotected ‘25 1st Rd. Pick / HOU Top 4 Protected ‘26 1st Rd. Pick (Converts to ‘27 Unprotected 1st Rd. Pick if not conveyed)
2) Acquire M. Bridges from Nets:
BKN Receives: J. Green / D. Exum / (2) 1sts. from OKC / ‘25 Unprotected 1st / ‘31 Unprotected 1st
DAL Receives: M. Bridges
3) Resign A. Lawson to 3 year minimum with 3rd year TO
4) Resign D. Jones Jr. to Bi-Annual Exception w/ 2nd year PO
5) Extend J. Hardy for 3 yr 25.2M (8 / 8.4 / 8.8)
6) Sign D. Smith Jr. to 1 year 3.5M using MLE
7) Sign K. Dunn to 1 year 3.5M using MLE
Depth Chart / Rotation:
PG: L. Doncic (36) / D. Smith Jr. / K. Dunn
SG: K. Irving (36) / J. Hardy (24)
SF: M. Bridges (36) / D. Jones Jr. (12) / A. Lawson
PF: P. Washington (32) / Kleber (20) / O. Prosper
C: D. Lively (24) / D. Gafford (20) / D. Powell
OKC will have oodles of cap space and no one to spend it on. They’ll kick the can down the road FA wise by getting THJ’s expiring to get up to the salary cap floor while adding veteran shooting and disposing of some of their lower value 1sts. We may need to add O-max or Hardy to match the value of two firsts, but if THJ’s efficiency jumps up with Exum’s return (or an injury facilitates him winning 6MOY) his value should be enough to get this done.
If Green can continue to raise his value, his extension (at roughly half the price of Mikal’s and for an additional year of control) will align with Claxton’s timeline and give BKN a ton of picks to reset with over the next several years. While BKN can admittedly get a better deal elsewhere, this package gives them two good POA defending replacements for Mikal, and sheds 8M in payroll while giving them 4 1sts. The ‘31 unprotected first is necessary to get the deal done. We might need Mikal to request a trade to us to compensate for the value other teams could put forth / add in OMP, but with the new trade rules in place, this deal saves them the most $ in a straight up Mikal swap.
Prematurely extending Hardy after jettisoning Hardaway is a big-brained move, and could save us big time when Hardy reaches RFA.
Lawson is good to have as a 3rd string developmental wing at a cost-controlled price.
DSJ and Dunn are excellent PG defenders; the former being an athletic penetrator and the latter being more of a 3pt specialist. Both only see sizable time on days Luka or Kai are resting/out with injuries. Giving them deals slightly above the minimum should get them here with relative ease.
You go into the season with literally no tradeable picks or cash, and 14 spots on the roster. No bad contracts, and you’re a few million under the 1st apron with enough left of your MLE to sign a buyout guy midseason to significantly more than the minimum.

Yes a very good 2way wing is the missed piece (unless Green makes 2step ahead or Exum will be healthy, no much faith on boths honestly)... But i think we are good as we are.
I want to wait the PO before take any decision.

No way THJ + pick swap can net you two future #1 in return.

If the Mavs get Mikal Bridges from BKN, they will gun for that 72-10 Chicago Bulls record.
