Ya idk how you can argue this trade for the raptors. It was clearly a home run for us. Even if we got only Kelly it would have been worth it. Getting two rotation pieces for OPJ and a late first is a win in my books

us. we want ochai to score from 3 from the corners and defend; both of which he already does well. and he's younger than precious.
i'm watching the knicks-celtics game; he's been good defensively but not so good offensively...same as here.

An underperforming 4 year college player, and an expiring, for OPJ and a late first is low return? Masai couldn't even get a FRP for FVV. This is a completely fair return.

If Ochai becomes a reliable 3 and D guy then Utah gets smoked in this. They couldn’t develop him. They are likely not finding that at 28 in this subpar draft. The deal made sense for utah only if they keep their pick so they’ll need to slide a little more. Deal absolutely makes sense for Tor Because they scooped 2 nice assets off the bench and got rid of a late first which they werent going to use considering the others they had.

Saying they "couldn't" develop him is a bit of a stretch, he played around 100 games with Utah. We couldn't develop Flynn after close to 200, one of those makes more sense than the others.

Not a stretch. Thats reality. They didnt develop him after only 1.5 years, gave up on him and decided to punt him for a 28th pick. Their fans hated this trade for that reason. A year ago he was labeled untouchable.

And we didn't develop Flynn in almost 4 years. And fans here hated the Kawhi trade

I don't understand why you are so willing to claim it was a crazy trade, he's a 4 year college player who has an insanely limited offensive game. He is not ever going to be a really good player, the best we can hope for is a solid 3+D, cept he averages 34% from 3. Maybe, just maybe, they traded him so early on, cause they identified him not being worth developing.

I really don’t get it. The moment things started to get bad he came back. When the franchise was winning he left for 6 years. Don’t think this is the right mindset to have.

Well so far you're in the minority. All they did was sell low to grab a 28th pick in a bad draft. Big whoop. That should be commended? Lol. Team was also playing well but now they will need to suck and slide into top 10. Their fans hated it and rightfully so. Ochai just a year ago was considered untouchable and now they let him go. They sold on him too early and yes they didn't develop him. Grabbing a back up PF/C was good business but getting a guy like Ochai and developing him into a real 3 and D threat just makes this too obvious for TOR to do.

He seems like the typical realgmer who drastically overrates first round picks no matter where they are. Fact is empirical evidence suggests the pick we gave up isnt that valuable.

He's strong and looks like he could be a POA defender to help guard PG's. I could see him become like a more athletic Wesley Matthews.

So because I wasn't terminally online for 6 years on realgm, it's cause things were good? Do you ever read out the stupid **** you write?

Maybe you didn't have anything going on in life, but free time and availability ebbs and flows for most people.

Your account is from 2021, should I assume then that you are a new fan that only joined after the chip and have no concept of how bad a team can get?

You bandwagon fans are the worst right?

What about my thread here was negative? I was literally saying that Utah made the trade for a smart reason, not all trades have to have a clear winner/loser, and it wasn't a bad trade.

But hey, jump into the convo 10 posts later and make a smart ass comment, that's cool. Does it get exhausting making comments with zero context all the time?

Trading the #29 pick for a young player with the potential to become a good 3+D role player is solid return. If Masai likes Agbaji's potential, I'll trust his judgement. The likelihood of the 29th pick we traded becoming anything more than a role player is miniscule.

I do like what Darko has done with the bench. Having Ochai and Kelly already brings familiarity and Brown can fit any line-up. Gradey then becomes the main scoring threat. I think that is going to be a high scoring group although my preference is to add some rim protection in.

Sure he can hit a bunch of threes and then hit nothing, he's like a 33% shooter getting limited minutes. You want him to spread his threes out evenly or something because of a distrubtion of like 15 shots? Some of the criticism nba players get is pretty bizarre to me.

What is wrong with asking for a consistent 33% if he is capable of hitting that many threes in a game he can surely make one a game. Some people have such low expectations of a lotto pick.

Just because you can't rationalize with reality, doesn't make me negative.

We didn't develop Flynn into anything, that is a fact. Ochai is very unlikely to become a "really good" player, otherwise they wouldn't have traded him.

I'm not saying Ochai will be garbage, but the reality is that he is a 4 year college player that has had a mediocre showing in the NBA in about 120 games thus far. This is the same stuff people used to say about flynn.

When your house is on fire, or your car has a flat tire, it isn't negativity to make the statement of what is happening. If you want unhinged an unearned positivity, I can direct you to a subset of posters, but it ain't me. So either add to foes or move on :dontknow:

I never said there was anything wrong with trading him for that pick. I just said expecting him to be something just because Masai traded for him is nonsense. He's a 4 year college player with almost 2 full NBA seasons worth of games under his belt. The reality is, if he was anything substantial, he would have already showed it/not been traded for a 29th pick.

Maybe he turns into a serviceable bench player, I'd be happy with that. But I don't see how it's such an outlandish statement to say that odds are, he doesn't turn into anything very good, just decent.

This entire line of discussion came from me saying the trade made sense for Utah, and kinda made sense for us. That's all, it wasn't a condemnation of the player, just a counter point to a couple people saying the trade made zero sense for Utah.

Made sense for Utah in that they are tanking to keep their pick and Kelly is good enough to help them win. Ochai isn’t a high ceiling player so Utah can get worse, retain their pick and then try their luck finding an NBA caliber player with the 28th pick. Ochai’s ceiling is a solid 3+D player. Nothing more than that.

I don't think he's a perfect 3+D player. It looks like he can't hit threes unless it's from the corner.

he's intriguing - not in the he can be a star kind of way but he can be a solid rotational piece. i believe in our staff in terms of development so i think he's gonna look alot better next season after a summer of NOAH!

part of me believes ainge just wanted a more tradeable asset on draft night. alot of teams rather have these "picks" rather than rotational type of prospects b/c of better optics.
