According to the latest mock draft from ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo, the Hawks are landing one of the most talented prospects in the draft, G-League Ignite's Ron Holland. Holland has been as high as the top five in some mock drafts, but a thumb injury that will sideline him for the rest of the season could cause him to drop a few spots in the draft.

Holland averaged 20.6 points on 44.3 percent shooting, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in 14 games for the Ignite.

This would be an interesting selection for the Hawks. Most draft analysts are not high on this draft, but having a potential top-five pick like Holland fall to ten could be huge for the Hawks. They benefitted from Jalen Johnson falling to them in the 2021 NBA Draft and now Johnson has turned into one of the most improved players in the NBA and one of the cornerstone players for the Hawks's future. The Hawks could potentially have two first-round picks this summer, due to the Kevin Huerter trade. If the Kings make the playoffs, Atlanta will get their first-round pick. In the ESPN mock draft though, they have Sacramento missing the playoffs, meaning they get to keep their pick. The most recent mock drafts have had the Hawks taking some high-upside prospects.

I'm not a huge fan, but it wouldn't surprise if we pursued this kid in a post-Trae draft scenario.

Are we still.gonna get that pick? Kings are currently 8th, If the standings hold, they have to play some combination of one or two of Mavs, Lakers, Warriors in the playin to get a playoff spot. And Fox is battling some kind of shoulder injury.

Oh, I'm definitely keeping my eye on their playoff situation.

One thing in our favor: Kings have missed the playoffs 20 out of the past 21 years, so they are likely to go all out to actually make the postseason and regain control of their future draft picks.

Not much incentive for them to keep a middling pick in a 'sub par' draft class.

I know they won't deliberately tank. I'm just concerned regarding the team's they're matched up with in the playin. If it rolls to next season, it's top 12 - I just don't fully trust the Kings to remain a top team.

18. Atlanta Hawks (via Kings): Jaylon Tyson

Team:
California
Position: SF/PF
Size: 6'7", 215 lbs
Age: 21

Jaylon Tyson keeps pumping out huge scoring outputs with the type of self-creation and three-level shotmaking that's limited in the projected 2024 draft field. It's worth questioning his enormous usage and future transition to more off-ball reps at the NBA level. But at 6'7", 215 pounds, he's too skilled on/with the ball, including as a secondary playmaker, for NBA teams to overthink his offensive effectiveness.

Kel'el Ware

School: Indiana
Position: C
Size: 7'0", 242 lbs
Age: 19

From an individual performance standpoint, Kel'el Ware continues to take care of business against the lower-level opponents. But in five games against Purdue (two), Kansas, Auburn and Connecticut, he's a combined 14-of-43 (32.6 percent). There will be NBA teams who see too much natural talent at 7'0", verticality, post skill and shooting range to nitpick in the Nos. 15-30 range. And there will be others turned off by the constant questioning of his toughness and wavering impact. Draft workouts ultimately create an ideal setting for Ware to entice teams with his physical tools, athleticism and touch.

It's a plethora of 6-7 to 6-10 sized wings. Lock those that want to compete during workouts in the gym and who ever impresses should be the one.

This kid feels like he's destined to be a Miami Heat player and a thorn in our side for the next decade:

Devin Carter | PG/SG | Providence

Image

Age: 21
Size: 6'3", 195 lbs

Now with six games of at least 25 points since New Year's Day, Devin Carter continues to open scouts' minds to new NBA projections and possible archetypes. He looked more like a defensive energizer with some streaky shotmaking earlier in the season. But the scoring outbursts are now occurring regularly. He's self-creating into jumpers. He's becoming of the nation's most effective ball-screen operators with his command, change of pace and craftiness. And he's been ultra efficient shooting off both spot-ups and screens.

Outlier guard stats like 8.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game only help separate Carter further. On an off night Wednesday on the road against Xavier, he still grabbed 11 boards and swatted four shots (to go with 22 points and six assists). It's becoming time to update his projected NBA role and ceiling.

I'm kinda dreaming about Buzelis or Salaun as a big SF and Edey as a big C
