Not when he said that. At that point, Embiid hadn’t made a first team all nba and finished 7th in MVP voting.

Let me get this straight. Embiid can say he’s the best player in the world at a point in his career where he hasn’t made an ALL NBA first team, hasn’t finished top 5 in voting and hasn’t made it out of the 2nd round (still hasn’t).

But Tatum can’t say it when he’s made all nba first team twice, was top 5 in MVP voting and made the conference finals 4 times.

How does that make sense?

He's not the best player in the league, but he might win MVP.

Embiid is out and they're probably tired of giving it to Jokic. So why not give it to the guy who's team has the best record?

Also the way he phrases it is being the best player on the court. When you get to the finals getting through KD and Giannis and your team goes 28 and 7 down the stretch he actually was the best player on the court in that stretch. He already shown he's capable of doing that until he didnt in the Finals vs Curry but he's more proven in that regard then a lot of star players.

Here’s an interesting question. If you are Celtics, who are you trading Tatum for? I definitely wouldn’t trade him for Embiid, maybe Luka but he doesn’t play defense. Jokic is the only one but even then I would hesitate because the Celtics are so good this year.

Haha no they wouldn’t. The Celtics actually want to make it out of the second round.

Tatum is turning 26, just entering his peak, plays in 90% of his games and out performs Embiid consistently in the playoffs.

Embiid is turning 30, has only played in 54% of games in his career, a good regular season player but always comes up short in the playoffs.

Crazy that Tatum has played in 65 more regular season games and 42 more playoff games than Embiid and is 4 years younger.

But yes, in the regular season he certainly raises 76'ers ceiling significantly. Nobody argues that. I just cited him as an example since people say Tatum couldn't be an MVP because he's a choker in the playoffs or something.

Maybe in your fantasy world where Embiid is magically going to show up in playoffs and have no injury problems. Maybe if we’re playing one season of NBA 2K.

Nobody in their right mind is trading a 25 year old MVP candidate with no injury history for an MVP who is 29 who consistently can’t stay healthy and has shown zero ability in his career to get things done in the playoffs.
