He's been one of the worst offensive players in the NBA for a very long time and might be the most overrated player in the NBA.
Kuzma is not very good at shooting, doesn't get to the paint enough, and is one of the worst in the NBA at getting to the line.
The numbers are the numbers, and they don't lie.
But being ineffective in his particular role is not the same thing as being an ineffective NBA player. Kuzma really can do a lot of things that a lot of NBA players can't do. There are very few guys his size that can create off the bounce, see the floor, and be a three level scorer like Kuzma can. And Kuzma has shown in the past that he can be a solid NBA defender and above-average rebounder for his position. The problem with Kuzma is that he thinks he is better than he really is. He should have a usage of 20-23% and not 30%. If he could be convinced to stop shooting off-the-dribble 3's early in the shot clock, he would be a much better player. A team would trade for Kuzma under the premise that they could convince him to be a 3rd option type of player and cut out that bad shots.
Obviously, that's a bit of a gamble, but there's no doubt that the talent is there. For example, Kuzma is a 44% shooter from corner 3's. Put him in an off-ball role shooting corner 3's and attacking closeouts while expending more energy on defense and rebounding, and he could help a good team as a role playing starter. And then he could also step in as a 2nd or 1st option on their second unit.
