Re: Is Moses Moody an NBA caliber player?
Really Moses minutes need to come from Klay. Klay shouldn’t be playing 30 so take 10 from him. Take 10 from podz and all of gp2 minutes. That’s 25-28 mpg right there.
Gp2 should be a break in case of emergency for specific matchups or if we need defense or some energy.

Moody is the3rd best perimeter defender on this team and probably the best 3 and D wing. He needs more minutes and he's showing his ability now. He needs to play alongside wiggins, not be is replacement when needed.

Re: Is Moses Moody an NBA caliber player?
What Moody really needs to do is get that corner 3 situated... he was excellent in college there. This year he's sub 30% and barely over 30% when wide open from the corner
But the 2 ways he teed up his 3s in college - mostly being perimeter passes or inside-out passes directly facing the rim - just dont happen much in this system. There's no rhythm because he's not actually involved in the play, he's an afterthought where teammates only hit him if pretty much every other avenue is closed. Its a hard adjustment to go from being the best player in HS to being the best player as a freshman on your college team to the guy who's getting less offensive touches than GP2 per minute
Have to wonder if the team did more to get him involved offensively, if he'd be a far more positive offensive player. If only the Warriors had time, like two and a half years, to give that a real look

a Curry/Moody/JK/Wiggins/Dray lineup does look like a great defensive lineup.

Would absolutely love to start games like this, since for whatever reason in Q1, Dray has become a sharpshooter from deep. Closing the game would depend on how Moody/Wiggins were shooting that day, or if the team was protecting a lead. But that lineup has serious defensive potential. And if they want to go full defense for some stints, subbing out Kuminga for GP2 could work as well. Or if the opposing team has good defenders inside

Really it must be because he has his legs at the start of games. Then as the game wears on his legs are gone and he can't shoot.

He may be getting more minutes because it looks like the team again seems to have no idea when or if Wiggins will be back this season.

Thats the best I've seen Moody shift down and defend iso guards. Quite the development as we have already seen him use his length and strength to shift up to guard bigger forwards.
From an on-ball standpoint, we all of a sudden have a handful of very versatile switch everything man defenders in GP2, Wiggins, Kuminga, Moody... and even Dray/Podz as well even if they aren't in that "wing" department.

Torn on Kuminga being a switch defender. He's not on the level of the others for sure, but its about minimizing the negative impact. If he's on ball, its better for everyones rebounding (he's an OReb guy not a DReb guy), and it doesnt put him in the scramble where he either needs to find his man or take the man of the guy who's now covering his original man. On the downside, the POA defense on guards and some wings has been below average, with a few promising spikes every so often - like that chasedown block on Brunson
What's funny to me is that the data would tell you to do the opposite of what the Knicks did - screen Kuminga (on-ball or off) and let chaos ensue in the recovery. They instead screened Moody, who kept recovering but then knew exactly where to go afterwards. So if Brunson didnt take JK off the dribble, Knicks were kinda screwed. And they were

JK is still a mixed bag on ball. He still lunges himself out of position but he can sometimes get back due to athleticism. Still kind of a mess off ball as he gets lost easily. Just not sure what you're going to get with him. The 2nd unit featuring him, Klay, Saric is just an adventure defensively.

Seeing Moody guard Brunson made my "Wes Mathews with bigger wingspan but slower feet" comp look even better.

Probably. Its just amazing to see a 3pt shot without any arc. Could probably balance a level on it

I think hes going to be very good, in time, against forwards. But people are projecting his offensive quickness into his defense, and that just doesnt track. Same with Poole. Neither is particularly sharp nor that good at reactionary change of direction. Which for JK is fine, because forwards typically arent elite with that (not fine for Poole, but who cares anymore)
The improvement for JKs defense will need to come between the ears. Most will talk about minutes and reps and all that, but truth is that with the highly improvisational offense (Curry) and defense (Dray) we use, its going to be more about JKs ability to understand whats going on around him in real time. Tough ask for a guy that didnt play college ball, at least this early. What he'll need is continuity.. but maybe now that Klay's benched, he'll start getting that. Never know with Kerr though

When I made my 14&15 smoldering dumpster fire prediction I hadn’t even considered the possibility that Klay and Wiggins would get out of JK and Moody’s way.
