tWo blueprint. Keep tanking until we get our Lebron/MJ. If we don’t get that then we are just treadmilling and wasting time.
Even after getting that player....Luka isn't close to winning anything and I have doubts he will be for the foreseeable future. There's a big difference between superstars and "winning" superstars.
I think Luka is a special talent and can win with the right team around him. Mavs have just failed at it. That just shows you how difficult it is.
Magic tanked for 4 years and yet they are likely still going to be looking for that top 10 player because Banchero and Franz are likely not going to get to that level.
Pistons are still looking. Hornets are still looking. Rockets are still looking. Cavs were in the
lottery for a long time and didn’t draft any top 25 players. They had to trade for one.
The team that is brought up the most is OKC and yet they didn’t acquire their top 10 player through the draft or through tanking. They acquired him through a trade which would’ve never happened had Kawhi not chosen George as his running mate. I really like Chet and Jalen Williams but I think we can all agree that those guys likely wouldn’t strike much fear in the opposition if they were OKCs top two players.
The reality is this stuff is just really hard and that’s why tanking is a last resort for teams around the league. Presti and Weltman treadmilled for 4 years before finally tanking. Masai treadmilled for two years. And at least with Masai he had a 20 year old ROTY. No one thought they should tank after their 48 win season. In fact, people around the league thought they should be buyers. Weltman and Presti thought they could build a team around Vucevic and Westbrook which is just hilarious.
