Things to look forward to for the remainder of the season

Post#1 » by LoveMyRaps » Sun Mar 3, 2024 7:55 pm

Board morale is at an all-time low following the Barnes season ending injury.
As evident by the fact that there isn't even a game thread 3 hours prior to tip off

With that being said, what are some things you're looking forward to with this new look group? (Max 5)

For me, I want to see:

- IQ become a more reliable playmaker and look to setup his teammates more
- RJ continue his resurgence. Would be quite the story if he can maintain these averages with Scottie out (21/6/4 on 55/40 splits)
- One of JFL or Carton to "surprise" us and show that they can be a part of the core moving forward
- Gradey to make a run at an All-Rookie team.
- Ochai to improve as a spot up shooter (hopefully finish the season averaging around 36% from deep - currently at 30%)

Less Trent minutes. Keep Dick at 20 minutes for now. Give Carton & JFL some decent run to see if they can be bench depth next year. Run various PnR actions with Poeltl, if not efficient, trade Poeltl.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

The goal should be to continue going for the play in. We need to give everyone a slightly harder and bigger role. Barrett is now the first option so give him more pick and roll opportunities. Dick should be a starter, use his gravity to free up RJ. IQ needs to be more trigger happy and take more threes.

If we make the play in without Barnes it would raise the value of a lot of our pieces. If we play well and win it would streamline our rosters development.

20min doesn't seem nearly enough for Gradey. I want to see him playing at least 25mpg. He's earned it!

At this point, nothing. I was on the play-in train before the injury, but now it's back to cheering for losses.

I know they probably start Kelly O at the 4 because Scottie's probably done for the season...

But...how about going small? Shift RJ to the 4 and start Gradey.
Quickley/Carton
Trent/Agbaji
Dick/Brown
Barrett/Boucher?

Youre asking to get killed on defense and on the inside by starting both Dick and Trent. Sure it looks good offensively but it's not worth the massive negative tradeoff.

For me it’s just hoping Gradey gets a much bigger role and seeing what he does with it.

I think a lot of us were getting falsely lured in to the prospect of making the play-in. In reality, the damage from the first half of the season was too much and we likely would not have made it. The Barnes injury obliterated that notion completely.

Agreed with all of your "watchlist", those would be mine as well. RJ, IQ, Dick and Ochai are all that matter at this point.

Yeah, I ruled out the play-ins a while back.
But the push to make the play-ins would've been beneficial for our players, those games would be meaningful.

I do, but only because I'm team tank for 20 more games. (beat Indy, The Lakers, lose the rest, draft a top 6 pick, win 50+ next season)

RJ should definitely get the knee procedure right now.

And in this current situation with Scottie likely out for the season...that would be bad...why?

Clarity

It is now a near impossibility that the Raps could make the play-in, and their draft lottery position is pretty much set.

So Darko can now just play the younger guys (Dick & OA) to see what he has going into next season, and the team can see what IQ & RJ can be as leaders of the team.

Draft will either be they move up into the top 4 and hopefully there is real talent there worth drafting, or they give up the 7-9 pick to the Spurs.

At least next year, their roster makes more sense starting the season. Hopefully Masai can add another complementary piece, and they end this season playing well (not necessarily winning games but playing the right way), which rolls into the start of next season.
