Wouldn't it be better to find another Koloko in the draft and then mold him into the passing big we want to fit behind Poeltl? So when we are ready to compete in 2027, we have a young backup C coming into his own. Instead of a 33yo taking up that roster spot and mins over the next two years? We are rebuilding right?
It's a 2 year extension that will lock both Poeltl and Olynyk into contracts paying them a combined $32 million to take up most of the minutes at C, so any big man drafted this year with the Indiana or Detroit pick would likely spend their time split between the G league and the Raptors developing into someone who can play 20+ minutes per night by the time these 2 are ready to move onto other teams or have their roles adjusted to accommodate the drafted big man and his development.
That looks like the plan. I don't agree with it but I can see the POV the FO is half giving up on developing its own C after the Koloko (health) and Precious (brain) failures
