Hard to say, at this juncture I'd wait until TT gets back and see what he looks like before i filled spot 15. Whoever it is has little to no chance of playing, even in an insurance situation.ijspeelman wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:https://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/releases-sharife-cooper-signing-240226?fbclid=PAAaaP4fsP-ng5J_D4F9rfl_BTFfWrcjRMZ-W1K3W5MbDLzYrWR7IzhaRC3TA
10 days can obviously be cut short but looks like our 3 two-way guys are locked in for the year, since March 4th is the deadline if one was gonna be converted.
I doubt Cooper will fill the 15th spot just a good way to get him some money. I have no idea what the Cavs will do with the 15th spot. Probably moot bc the player won't crack the rotation.
15th spot is def injury insurance. The question is do they target playmaking, wing, or big depth

I'd literally wait to see if someone gets hurt and will be out for the start of the playoffs, but someone to do Dean Wade's competent-invisible-4 role would be much appreciated. Otto Porter?

Ik he's away from the Jazz, I'd take a flyer on him if they complete the buyout before March 1st.toooskies wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:Hard to say, at this juncture I'd wait until TT gets back and see what he looks like before i filled spot 15. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with waiting until the last like week or so of the season to fill it. Until then, can keep getting Charge guys paid with 10 days.

A player has to be waived by March 1 in order to be eligible for the playoffs.

I saw this posted on the GB, not sure how legit it is, but we should be in good shape in terms of keeping the team together if that's what everyone wants:
The NBA will get a new TV contract in 2025; however the salary cap jumped will be smoothed out. Combine this with inflation and we are expecting to see the NBA salary cap increase by $15M a year over the next 5 years.
2024-25 $149.623 mil
2025-26 $164.585 mil
2026-27 $181.044 mil
2027-28 $199.148 mil
2028-29 $219.063 mil

Funny how this sort of thing comes up after a back to back double OT game when Mitchell was already dealing with something affecting him since the All-Star break and Bickerstaff and Donovan start playing a variation of Russian Roulette where the goal is apparently to to see who can keep their guys on the floor the longest.
Thibs would be proud of those guys ...

Looks like Mobley has another extended absence ahead of him. Cavs should probably at minimum sign a big guy to a 10 day or two.

Damian Jones, Pete Nance, Emoni Bates, Isaiah Mobley ... we have options if our coach would play them.

fwiw, Damian and CPJ did get first and second half minutes .vs. the Hawks. But then JBB followed that up by deciding the path to victory was to play Caris for 19+ minutes straight in the second half on a b2b coming off an injury....

Yeah... It's not looking great for the state of the Cavs come April from a health/rest perspective but i guess that isn't too different from the past 2 seasons.JonFromVA wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:But he refuses to play those guys, which means he probably wouldn't play a 10 day guy either.JonFromVA wrote:

Is anyone else watching Okoro and seeing him potentially being one solid playoff series away from being considered a legitimate player?
Well at least we're not Detroit!

They're finally gonna put some Cavs games on broadcast TV (only need an antenna to watch) yet i am not considered "in-network" for those. Yet when i had League Pass for 3 months i was "in-network" so games were blacked out.
Getting the short end of the stick both ways lol

If you're within 60 miles of the broadcast tower, you might be able to get a signal with a proper long range antenna and some luck with obstacles and signal propagation. There are web sites that can check the signal path for you, recommend an antenna that might work, and tell you which way to point it. Signal quality usually improves at night, clouds/rain can help, and the lower the frequency (which is not always indicated by the channel number) the better.

what do you mean by legitimate player?
this year, Okoro has been one of the more valuable role players in the league with his increased volume and efficiency on threes and his ever-present defense
its a little scary for the contract implications this off-season

If Okoro maintained his current play, I agree that he would/should be viewed as a legit 3 and D player leaguewide. With how confident he has looked lately, it makes me wonder how much further he can take his game. I am not saying he will get to the same level by any means, but I am starting to get Jimmy Butler/Kawhi vibes from a development perspective.
Your last comment scares me as well, how many teams will covet a 23 year old athletic wing with defensive versatility who can knock down 3s with solid efficiency, while also being to create for himself and others a bit...
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Other than not having a deep slump from three at the beginning of the season like he did the past two years, Okoro's actual improvement is fairly marginal. In 2021-22, he started the season shooting 22% from three in his first 20 games before shooting 43% in his last 47. In 2022-23, he started the year 0/12 in 12 games and shot 39% the rest of the year, 44% after January 1st.
His 3PA volume increase is only 0.5 per 36 minutes over last year. Those threes are coming in more varied locations/situations, and he is slightly more guarded (but still among the least-guarded shooters in the NBA). His TS% is very slightly down (but still high, especially for a wing).
It's great that his volume is up, but his volume is up this year over last mostly because one of Garland or Mitchell has been out so much and there are simply more available touches. He's making progress-- adding more variety to his game-- but outside of start-of-season slumps he was already in a pretty good place.
But still-- welcome to Okoro Island, the weather is great and the real estate here is still quite affordable.
(I'm not so worried about the contract implications, he should still get well under a Jaden McDaniels contract-- even though Okoro's been better this year, I think McDaniels was clearly overpaid.)
