At this point there's pretty much no excuse not to come out of free agency with a legit starter at safety. Can't pretend to have very informed opinions about most of the available options but there's just so many guys out there to choose from now.

It would be really nice to not have to reach for a safety in this year's class, which is dog crap.

Adams, Poyer and now Simmons. There’s some tasty options in free agency at a big position of need for us. We need to capitalize and snag whoever Hafley thinks fits the system best. I agree with ReasonablySober, this safety group is lackluster in the draft. I don’t mind drafting someone but in the 1st 3 rounds seems like bad value now with all these stud safeties on the market and team needs at other positions that are stronger in this class.

Is it me or are all of the recent safety classes dog crap? When was the last good safety draft?

This seems good for Green Bay

2018. Minkah, Derwin James, Jessie Bates, J.T. Gray, Jeremy Reaves.

It's been a while.

Feels kind of fortuitous that every decent safety in the league outside of winfield jr is getting cut right now. Idk how much we'll have to spend but we won't be short on options.

I might be falling for the groupthink by saying this, but maybe the Packers should also minimize costs at safety and invest more in other positions? I know I've been advocating for filling that position, but the crash in the market has me thinking maybe they should just try to fill the position with Owens, Johnson, and a couple day 3 picks or something.

ETA: just throwing it out there as a possibility - not saying I actually believe that (yet).

I think the new thinking now is that we might get a deal on the caliber of player we wouldn't have expected going into the offseason. Hafley's scheme sounds very safety reliant.

I think you can make an argument against shelling out big money but this is way too far in the other direction. There's so many guys out there now that if Gute wants to bypass the top of the market guys and still add a vet or two on one year deals without spending crazy money he can absolutely do that.

I think Gute might be able to pull a good safety at a reasonable deal. Guys like Curl and Fuller probably drop a tier or two with the additional "bigger-name" safeties coming to FA, so I hope that puts them more in our range.

I see depressed markets for both safety and running back. I would definitely have a hard cap on what I'd spend on RB, but if we could get someone like Barkley reasonable, I'm in. Safety I'd definitely be adding a FA over using a pick in this crap class.

I’m not gonna say anything bad about Saquan but ‘reasonable’ doesn’t seem to be a realistic option in contract talks. Jones should retire a Packer and deserves that opportunity. If he didn’t look awesome to close the season maybe there’s a further discussion but if he’s willing to take a 3rd pay cut now to stay, there’s zero reason not to just take advantage of that and look for a long term fit in the draft rather than worry about what Saquan, Henry or Ekeler are gonna fetch on the market. Resources are much better allocated elsewhere than RB in free agency. Go get Justin Simmons yesterday..

Glad some are starting to notice Alohi. Brought him up as a possible option a few times over the past month as he fits in that Kurl territory of buy low for good production. Would love that add.

What a great year to need safety help lol.
