I like it if they are playing with Brooks, Jabari and Amen (or even Eason) - all are strong on defense.

But, anyway . . .
So - Markky is mainly playing the three spot now - correct?
I know he is tall - but playing SF.
Houston has a tall pf in Jabari and a not as tall center in Sengun. Markky could play with them.
PG (Vleet or Amen)/Brooks/Markky/Jabari/Sengun - corresponds to (6' or 6'7, 6'6, 7', 6'11, 6'11) so Brooks would be shortest when Amen is in - that would be strong defense.
Bench if not dealt: JGreen, Eason, Whitmore, Adams, picks
-
If Ainge wanted to pivot from Markky, then getting one of Eason/Whitmore would be a solid move. They both have potential in different ways.
Whitmore can flex down to sg better than Eason so, maybe this:
High potential prospects: Eason, JGreen
Picks: #4 would do it if HOU gets luckys. Otherwise, #8 and one more pick of middle value. A 2025 swap option (top 10 protected so if HOU or BKN is top 10 then HOU keeps it) - which would then defer to the 2026 BKN pick(top 4 protected) defers then to HOU 2027 1st (top 1 protected).
Filler: Tate, Landale
I personally consider Jabari significantly more valuable than Eason + Green (I don't see much value at all in Green right now, to be honest), so I don't think this package would move the needle much.

Re: Houston trades for Lauri
Do the OP's trade and bring in a third team, the Nets.
Nets send Simmons
Jazz send Collins, Sensabaugh, Yurtseven
Jazz are able to take remaining years of Collins and get them over with in one season - chances of Utah landing a FA that would make the difference this year is minimal. Jazz could possibly buyout Simmons and let him go rehab his back for another year.
Utah then has a team of: Castle (with #8), Green, Hendricks, Smith, Landale
Able to get Filipowski/Clingman/Sheppard/Tyler Smith at 10. Reach for Edey at 28 and you have a nice team that will lose a lot but can grow. Still have 15 FRPs through the next 6 drafts.

Re: Houston trades for Lauri
I agree that JGreen's value is dropping hard this year. Potential moving to missed potential. Still, hard to just drop him on the cheap when he can be a wrecking ball at times.
Right now, it is obvious the team is giving JGreen rope to improve or not. Might decide by offseason.
Eason/Whitmore provide a problem for Houston. Eason is all around good - the team defense and record has crashed since he has been out (the plus/minus is 0 now but was one of the top ones in the league). Whitmore is ok on defense and could be a scoring machine. Hard to consider letting either go - want to see what they become.
Jabari looked like he was stepping up - before his knee got banged up. Now, getting in the flow.
A lot of talent - just has to become productive talent.

Well Jabari is going out in the proposed scenario

Think there's a pretty big chunk of value in the pick swap you're ignoring heteeminence wrote:Jabari + 8 is a fine value core, but I’d decline. No value given to Green.
Sexton feels too toss in. Wouldn’t be looking to include him.

How are you viewing the swap? I'm looking it as an early teens for mid 20s swap.

Re: Houston trades for Lauri
I think it's 7-12 range plus winning lottery odds (ranges from 30% to 7% in that range) for mid 20s on a really good draft (at this point in time)eminence wrote:K_chile22 wrote:Think there's a pretty big chunk of value in the pick swap you're ignoring heteeminence wrote:Jabari + 8 is a fine value core, but I’d decline. Re: Houston trades for Lauri
I don't really love the idea of Markkanen in Houston. Sengun isn't a great defensive backstop, so Houston really needs some top tier defensive forwards to make the defense work. Jabari Smith and Amen Thompson fit well, as does Tari Eason. Replacing one of them with Markkanen would compromise the D. If I were Houston, I'd aim lower and just try and find a real good movement shooter to play with Sengun and those forwards.
If they could turn Green and picks into a younger version of Klay Thompson, that would be great. (I don't know who that player is though. The shooting guard position isn't that strong these days.)

Re: Houston trades for Lauri
I think Jabari's defense today is getting a bit overrated here. I have no doubt he'll be much much better defender than Lauri down the road, but right now he's a twenty year old skinny forward who doesn't have the best help side instincts/experience and they've maintained a top 6 defense, don't think the drop off replacing this ultra young Bari with Lauri will be that large, plus they'll hopefully be getting Tari back who has barely played this year and had season ending surgerynate33 wrote:I don't really love the idea of Markkanen in Houston. That being said being patient and betting on Jabari is totally valid and I'm not opposed to it at all

How is everyone just glossing over the fact that Sexton is being treated as a throw in in this trade. The dude just turned 25 and is playing at an all star level on a cheap contract. This deal is a non starter for the jazz.

As a general rule, if something is actually impossible but still rumored, it’s a good time to learn that rumor source shouldn’t ever be trusted.
What rumor source should we all stop trusting here ?

This seems like a pretty big overpay.
Smith + 8 for Lauri has to be right around what his value is.

Re: Houston trades for Lauri
I will say I think Utah not just should, but will trade Lauri this summer. Ready to eat crow if wrong, but I think the ownership is willing to go all or nothing in tanking and unprotected picks from other teams.
History says you need a top 5-6 player to win the full championship. As absolutely great as Lauri is, he isn’t that. And I think Ainge decides to swing for that, versus being what a second round team around a renegotiate and extended Lauri? Curious to see if I an wrong, but that is my bet.

It's like people read one post that is against the trade from one team and then another poster feels like they have to be even more negative in reaction to the first negative post from the other teams perspective.

Re: Houston trades for Lauri
A smaller note, if Houston was willing to do Bari+8 for Lauri.. I’d leave out the Sexton part and whatever value the OP is assigning him in OP. Would need to keep 12ish million cap space for Lauri. They could move Adams after this to open that flexibility back up, but I’d keep the extra value and just trade Green once Lauri extends.
I think Houston’s offer should be the Brooklyn picks and give Utah right to swap the Cleveland/Minn picks in 25/27 like OP had, and whatever else is needed if that’s not enough. Using Green as the salary filler/asset (eh) and build a roster with 12 million in cap space. Lauri extends the end of November/beginning of December, and you decide to trade whichever of Bari or Eason or Brooks at that point.
