If he's bought out and can bring brought in for the minimum, why the hell not. Low risk/high reward moves is how you should try to proceed in every facet of life.

Now I don't expect Brooklyn to actually do that. Simmons can still be valuable as a massive expiring contract in this new cap world.

Sometimes a player can have negative value due to poor attitude and locker room presence. On a talent basis, it would be a no brainer to give him a shot on a cheap deal. You'd have to be 90%+ sure his health - physical and mental - were there, though.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Ya I get that but let's not act like we're bringing him onto a championship roster, we're a bottom 10 team at best. If he acts up, you quickly release the man lol.

We're a young, rebuilding team. That's exactly the type of situation you don't want to bring a malcontent vet into.

It's a high risk, low reward (he sucks at basketball) move. Absolutely not worth even considering.

I can see a contender bring him on to be a third string big (his bad attitude won't rub off on vets), but if that doesn't pan out, he'll be in China or retired in a year or two.

Guess we'll agree to disagree. This would be a lesser version of the Schroder signing since I'd only offer a 1 year cheaper deal to the guy. Guys on those contracts are usually egoless since they know what happens if they mess around.

this is a tough one

Mop girl looks nice, but she may not stay here for long-term. She will likely set sight to higher aspirations.

Simmons is not someone I want to look at during breaks, but as a mop boy he can get to those wet spots real fast with his NBA athleticism. Plus, he'll likely be a long-term asset and may have the potential to develop into mop man.

To be honest....a backcourt of simmons and IQ COULD work. Plus there's the multi-positional defender everyone wants in Og's absence.

Ppl forget that Simmons is an EXTREMELY talented ball-handler. Like wizard level dribble skills.

But it's probably wishful thinking on my part. I assume his problems have everything to do with his psychology/maturity. And that kind of stuff can be insurmountable.

But in him hitting rock bottom....I do find ppl forget how incredibly talented he is. The history of the league is full of players that were initially hot sheet....then had a fall....then made a comeback to respectability. Of recent note....porzingus comes to mind. Zach Randolph had that arc to some degree too.

I’d rather watch Bruce Brown on the bench in his redneck trucker outfit than Ben Simmons lol.

He's also missing the most fundamental skill in basketball: a shot.

He's basically a smaller Yakob Poeltl with a handle and a bad attitude. He'd be playing behind Scottie, Yak, and Kelly in the rotation. I'm not sure he'd even be ahead of Boucher.

Does he even want to keep playing? Seems like he doesn't even like the game anymore.

I assume his shot is missing because it's the one thing in basketball that only comes with disciplined training. You have to WANT to practise shooting. It HAS to be fun for you. If someone hypnotized him to think of shooting practuse like it was a video game he might become ray Allen.

I taught myself how to shoot shortly before and during covid. I started at 35% from free throw line. I became obsessed. Now I shoot between 55 and 60% from the college 3 line. I'm usually between 80 to 85% from the line but I only shoot those to warm up now. I shoot approx 200 college 3s per day for 4 years. Anything under 55% is a bad day for me and I'm never under 50. I'm 48 years old.

I proved to myself, if it's fun and u get addicted to it (like Ben is addicted to video games)....ANYONE can learn to shoot.

And Jacob poetl isn't elite at defending point guards and shooting guards and wings.

He was seemingly never interested in playing, but only an idiot would essentially turn down tens of millions of dollars. Smart thing would be to take that first massive rookie contract/extension, and then just dip.

Ben Simmons is the low work ethic type you want to keep away from your younger players in a rebuild.
