Michael Porter jr
It's very possible that soon the Nuggets will have to make a decision about him as their team will get more and mor expensive.
Anyway, what do you think would be his value? What can you see your team trading for him?

Guy has back issues and pretty much a shooter.
Don't think he will get them anything significant so might as well keep him imo.

Re: Michael Porter jr
If that is the route Denver feels is appropriate:
Denver trades Porter and Braun
Brooklyn trades Johnson and DFS.
Denver can then move DFS for picks or low cost return.
Johnson works well with the spacing.

There are 2 scenarios that I especially like... one is to trade him for Lavine, the other would be with the Blazers for J.Grant

Those save the Nuggets money as per the OP?

Re: Michael Porter jr
Imo their option trading him is for a different bad contract expiring earlier.

Denver is going over the second apron no matter what. No rush to move him yet.

Pass for POR.
Same tier player, similar money, younger but huge injury risk.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

If they were to trade Porter, I think they would trade him for a slightly worse player making slightly less money. Something like Porter for De'Andre Hunter.
I don't see it happening though. I don't think many other teams would want to be at the other end of that trade, and I don't think Denver would just give him away for a truly bad contract just to save money.

Re: Michael Porter jr
On draft night, I would do MPJ and Jackson for DFS and Schröder. We would absorb Reggie with one of our TPE's while staying just barely before the luxury tax. Meanwhile, Denver would get within 500K of the tax line, which could pay dividends in the future.
On the court, I think that Michael can play with the Twins, and can blossom with slightly bigger usage. Dorian would be an absolute rock star in Denver, I know everybody looks better next to Jokic but this would be particularly true of Smith. Dennis gives a bit more insurance for Jamal missing time.

Would Brooklyn ditch the 2025 plan for MPJ?

Re: Michael Porter jr
I don't think paying for a championship team is a problem. Denver is 6th in payroll this season. LA Clippers, Phoenix, Milwaukee and Boston invested more money in their teams trying to achive what Denver has done - win a championship. Denver and Boston are the only one of these teams with core young enough to compete for multiple seasons. There is no logic in trying to build a championship team, investing time and money only to dismentle it due to money when you build one.
Regarding players mentioned as potential trade options, not one of them is making Denver better or the same. MPJ value is not in a vaccum, it is in his specific role in Denver's team on O and D. Denver would be significantly worst team after all sugested trades.

ORL needs elite volume shooting and can give salary relief, problem is they need guards, not a combo forward.
To DET for Isiah Stewart? If DET strikes out on Siakam and OG, he's a better target than Tobias.

Deandre Hunter is not just "slightly worse", though

I can't see the Nuggets staying in the second Apron long enough to have their picks moved permanently to 30.
In particular if you want to to keep building around Jokic till he's in his mid 30s.
At some point they will have to make decisions and hopefully someone like Watson, Braun or even Tyson will be ready to step up to a starting role.
But for that MPj will need to be healthy and the Nuggets will need to showcase who good he actually is, as I don't think his reputation is matching his talent now.

Interesting. Pistons could certainly use more shooting. But it’s such a big contract for someone with a bad back.

Yeah, maybe not the perfect example. I just went down the list of forwards with a salary that could conceivably make the trade work. But I think he is somewhat representative of the type of player Denver would get. Which is why such a deal is unlikely.

I'd much rather go after OG and Siakam, but he's a good fall back option, 110/3 isn't too bad, he's worth 80/3 if healthy.

So long as Jokic is on his current level and MPJ is on his current level , they won’t be looking to cut payroll this drastically, they will probably be lowering the tax commitment marginally at the seams or just make tax payment.
A true first option that gets you into the finals just doesn’t come round often enough to be worried about paying tax .
Cheap out when you aren’t a contender instead .

I think he's essily worth 110/3 if healthy, but he's not going to show that in the Nuggets system
