I believe it saves on the cap hit this year to get us in compliance plus that is pretty cheap for either a starting RT or good depth. I Don't think it is all guaranteed either

A fourth for Jimmy? That's ridiculous. Last year Brandon Scherff signed a three-year, $50 million contract and netted a third. This year, three years for $72 million nets a 4th? Not to mention the Eagles got a 3rd for Hargrave at four years $84 million.

Feels an awful lot like the league putting their thumb on the scale.

Jawaan Taylor four years, $80 million resulted in a 3rd, too. So Jimmy has the highest annual value, and it's a fourth rounder. That really pisses me off.

Though we've been awful in the third round, so maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

The hits keep coming. Last year Christian Kirk signed a four year contract for $72 million. Same amount as Jimmy, but with an extra year. Cards got a 3rd. There should be an appeals process for that. Absolutely inequitable.

Nothing yet officially on McKivitz, but my guess would be that it lowers the $3.64M cap hit he had for 24 and some of that $7M will be a void year(s) down the road.

On Garoppolo, think playing time was a combined factor. He only played in 7 games.

Team should take a flier on Fields. He probably won't cost much and it wouldn't hurt to have a little competition in the QB room.

I think Fields could fetch a third or fourth round pick. Not to mention that Fields ' biggest weakness is playing within structure, which is Kyle's biggest thing.

All for adding some competition, but not sure Fields is the guy at this time.

He's got a ton of raw talent though. Kyle could easily mold him into a Cam Newton/Josh Allen type. Imagine Fields & McCaffrey running the read option. That would be the scariest combo in the league.

I mean that just isn't what Kyle does. No reason to waste a 3rd or 4th round pick on a project QB when we already have our guy. We will sign a vet and draft a guy in the 6th or 7th more than likely

So then what happens if Purdy gets hurt again?

Which was abundantly clear to anyone who watched him in college. Obviously more so than Lance. If that was what shanahan was looking for in a QB, Fields would have been a Niner three years ago.

And I think telling shanahan he could have the next Cam Newton would not be a compelling argument for him.

Yeah and before it would only be 2.2ish million if they do it before June 1st so I gotta imagine he'll get cut after June 1st because 18M is a lot of money to play around with.

A lot of fans will freak out over this but I'm completely fine with moving on from him. His play on the field never lived up to his contract and he's always had issues with injuries and odds are he'll never play a full season or most of one the rest of his career.

I'd much rather get DJ Jones for much cheaper and use that money on getting another edge rusher or another multitude of ways to make the team better that would provide more value than just Armstead alone.

This cap hit seems extremely complicated

Same thing that happens to pretty much every other team that has their starting QB injured?

It's going to be a post-June 1 designation when it becomes official. Armstead would immediately become a FA, but the money for the 49ers can't come off the books until June 2. Sounds like they've hit a snag with renegotiating Juszczyk as well ($7.588M cap, $4.9M savings, $2.67M dead pre-June 1). Juice's snaps have been declining, but he's still about 45+% snap player. Could be more likely that he stays and takes the paycut, but who knows?

49ers working with Juszczyk on a pay cut bur nothing imminent. However, Fred Warner has agreed to restructure opening up 10 million in cap space. And Jags Safety Rayshawn Jenkins is scheduled to visit. Solid player.

Niners re-signed Brandon Allen, presumably to a cheap deal. He could be the #2 this year, though I would imagine they would consider drafting a guy in the late rounds.
