Let’s upgrade Fultz and Harris and then worry about Cole.

That's a very solid chunk of change to consolidate into a player. Shoot, throw in Okeke's and Ingles' money and get two players.RichCollab wrote:Let’s upgrade Fultz and Harris and then worry about Cole.

What is the plan at point guard? Answering that question shapes what we do in the off-season.....is Suggs the point guard? Is AB ready or will he be next season?
AB/Cole/markelle
Suggs/jett/Caleb
Franz/Ingles
Paolo/isaac
Dell/moe
Got to answer that pg question, even if we go forward with AB do we keep Kelle on or bring in another guard, there may be an opportunity there... SG may be solidified if Suggs is the guy there as I see Gary gone no matter what... There is an opportunity behind Franz because I don't think Ingles is getting any better next season he's cooked... Got to maybe get another power forward as insurance for JI...goga is probably gone so there is another opportunity there... We have quite a lot on our plate this upcoming off-season

Too late…wrong thread anyway.
Yep, obvious to the most casual observer.
Oh so now you want to have a conversation after you took your ball and went home? What’s hilarious to me is you come back and post this for a gotcha after a game where literally everyone had a bad game except for maybe Ingles. I can name like 5 players who had worse “effort” last night than Franz. Franz wasn’t guarding Mconnell or Toppin. I don’t think you want to have a conversation you just want to be right.
My whole point in this exchange is that bad games don’t equal bad effort. I guess they do for you. Which is fine you’re entitled to your opinion. I find it odd your only targeting Franz but again that’s your opinion. I vehemently disagree with it.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

I’d rather have Jrue…but I’d say he’s a lot less likely to move. Ultimately, I don’t think Klay will either.
Will Boston be willing to pay him (plus the tax dollars) with Jaylen Brown's contract kicking in? That's really the question.
Giving him a 3 year ~$110 mil contract would be tough to swallow for them.
But don't you guys think that Klay linked with Magic this early is a sign that mutual interest might exist?
I think Klay would be a huge grab for us. Money aside, he brings Championship experience that can help these young guys. He’s likable so I’m sure he won’t hurt the locker room. Even with a washed Klay, you can stick him in the corner and that will open that lane up for P5 and Franz. No one is sagging off Klay, I assure you that.

I would have sworn that we'd go into this season with Black firmly entrenched in the rotation. We didn't, and the only reason he's been a significant contributor is due to Fultz and Harris dealing with injuries.KillMonger wrote:What is the plan at point guard? They are a bridge solution though, not a long-term threat to AB. Which implies the plan was always to bring AB along slowly. How slowly?
I think the team is high on AB and I would guess that he's in the rotation next season. Is he a starter though? I wouldn't bet on it but I'm rooting for it.

I really doubt Black will be the starter next season. I like him and he clearly has lots of potential, but he'd need to make a massive improvement on offense in a single summer to be ready for such a role on a team which is not tanking and wants to get a decent playoff seeding. His ability to create off the dribble for himself or others against NBA defenses still has a very long way to go. He has taken only 35 pull-up shots all season and his percentage on them is pretty dismal. And his assist numbers are really low and Mosley clearly don't trust him to be a main ballhandler yet. He barely ever runs plays no matter who he is playing with and practically never when he is with the starters.

He won’t be ready. Doesn’t mean he wont be eventually but he is extremely raw. I think everyone knows that which is why they told him to focus on his shooting. I could definitely see him getting there the kid has Suggs like work ethic. His improvement in 3s shows that. This team needs a veteran stabilizing force at the PG like we need water. It’s needs someone who can come off pick and roll who is at least a threat to pull up.
With that being said it’s easy to see and say that. But Paolo and Wagner have to become better shooters. They seem to avoid a lot of the blame because they are prospective stars and the best prospects we have had in a while. They are finding out how hard it can be to get to the basket when the other team knows you aren’t going to shoot it. Paolo last night refused to catch and shoot with the ball at least three times just to force a harder less advantageous shot. If they want to take this team to true contention they both need to develop counters to force defense to play them honestly.

Re: Official Summer 2024 Magic Free Agency and Trade Ideas Thread 3.0
I know this might be controversial but I think we have to start considering this. With the new CBA it makes it really damn hard to have more than 2 max contracts that mean the two guys you pick have to be not only the right guys but good fits. This season has been a tremendous step forward but the biggest concern to me is the fit of Paolo and Franz. I am not saying we act on this in this summer but if we’re forced to trade Franz what would the cutoff of guard would you want back? This I think is my list not all are realistic and not including some of older guys because most aren’t being traded and it’s messy:
Absolutely:
Luka
Shai
Haliburton
Jamal Murray
Brunson
Booker
Edwards
Possibly:
Trae
Fox
Garland
Maxey
Probably not but maybe:
Ja (only because of fit issues)
D. Murray
Cade
LaMelo
Derrick White
What are your guys thoughts on where that cutoff would be? I know a lot of these are unrealistic are there any that we might think are realistic?

Not only that, we need to find a way to dump Cole too. He is not dependable.
Cole is 80% awful, 20% good. Not for just this year but for his whole career so far. Problem is his bad games (80% of games) are so bad they are back breaking to team, as he is a high volume inefficient shooter and god awful on defence. I I agree we need to dump him, he is year 4 and just doesn't look like he will ever be dependable. Look at the difference between a steady vet like TJ Mconnell to Cole last night, its night and day difference.

LOL
Everything I said was obvious to the most casual observer. I was actually wrong in that I said he takes nights off. He has now strung together multiple games. This is a slump, all players go through them.
Unfortunately, when things are not going well for Fran, his effort. is affected significantly and definitely more than his brother.

I was just thinking that a team like the Suns may sign and trade Grayson Allen for multiple players like Cole and Harris. We could possibly add Wendell or Goga for Nurkic.JRoy wrote:eyriq wrote:That's a very solid chunk of change to consolidate into a player. Maybe Wendell, Cole, and a signed Fultz or Harris for Allen and Nurkic. The Magic would have enough cap to sign a player like Tyus Jones after the trade.
I like Jones. I just don't think you could have him and Cole on the same team. Allen and Jones were teammates at Duke and Memphis.

Those are improvements- but how much? The extensions kick in and you’re kind of set. I just don’t know what level of success Nurkic, Allen, Jones gets you…I’d be happy about an actual attempt to build a viable backcourt, but this is the summer to aim higher, imo. These are marginal improvements, other than Nurkic- who WCJ is far better than.

The backcourt is very likely going to be AB and Suggs. The only question I have is how soon? I won't be surprised at all if we sign Claxton with our pre-extension cap space and trade WCJ for a PG.
