Some buzz about David as a Dre replacement. How are you viewing Greenlaw, btw? Gone, gone for a year, unlikely to return to form or just a cap casualty?

According to Ian Rapoport 49ers are signing Leonard Floyd. Thats very nice edge help. He's coming off a 10 sack season. Pretty consistent. Though he's 31.

Really good veteran pass rusher, basically looks like a 1 year deal. Young was never coming back. There had been some talk that they'd like to re-sign Ferrell, we'll see if that happens or not.

Fine with that move. Adds a pretty good veteran player to address a position of need. Ideally we'd bring Ferrell back on a cheap deal or find another solid base end for cheap and then draft a guy maybe in the 4th.

That said, we're pretty old at 2/4 starting DL spots, have an empty spot, and basically no depth. So still some real areas of concern.

Perhaps the biggest news of the day as far as the Niners are concerned is the Cousins contract. Four years, $180 million, I think $100 million in guarantees, including $90 million over the first two years. That's probably a pretty good benchmark for Purdy, who could presumably get more given his age and greater level of playoff success. Granted the Falcons had to go out and bid for Cousins while we can pretty easily control Purdy for at least two more years on the final year of his deal and the franchise tag. That said, I would imagine this would be a starting point for his agent next year.

Tons of money on top of the trade, but not a bad move for the Giants. They still have the 6th overall pick and another second rounder, and they pick up an elite pass rusher.
