Cam Johnson for Jaden Ivey
Cam Johnson for Jaden Ivey
Pistons get a wing they liked in free agency and a guy that worked under Monty for an overlapping fit in Ivey.
Nets get a young point guard and save 2025 cap space for their big free agency plans by getting off of Cam.

Re: Cam Johnson for Jaden Ivey
This again? I'd rather just roll with Fontecchio and Ausar at this point. If you move Ivey, do it in a bigger deal with the '24 1st round pick, etc for a real impact player.
Fontecchio's numbers in Detroit are better than Cam's this year, FYI.
Player A: 15/4/2/1 on 48/43/84 in 28 minutes
Player B: 14/4/2/1 on 45/40/77 in 28 minutes
They're both 28 years old. One guy is frequently injured and makes $23M per year.

I don't think Cam is worth this much. Still shooting well but looked very limited otherwise this year, paid, not exactly young. Id rather have Ivey

Cam Johnson has very little value right now. I can see some teams buy low on him but BRK isn't getting anything close to Ivey's value.

I think Monte williams would love this trade, but our GM passes. If weaver was willing to spend that on Cam, he would have just made an offer this last summer vs helping the nets clear cap space by taking in Joe Harris.

Re: Cam Johnson for Jaden Ivey
Agree this seems like an overpay by giving up Ivey. If Cam were a free agent this summer, would he still get that deal?

Ivey still isn't good, but he has upside, whereas Cam Johnson has no upside left.

Johnson needs to be a teams 6 man. He is good but not starter good.

Re: Cam Johnson for Jaden Ivey
Cam Johnson continues to have injury problems but is now on a bloated contract. Weaver was right to stay away last summer and this trade would be a step back.

Re: Cam Johnson for Jaden Ivey
eh, this seems like selling low on Ivey who I'll admit hasn't looked good this year. I'd rather hold onto him or trade him as part of a package for a bigger fish.

I don't think Cam is worth Ivey, but Weaver didn't have the chance to sign him to his current contract. He extended with the Nets before the Pistons could even present an offer sheet.

No he didn't. He signed as an RFA in the summer. It wasn't an extension. The pistons agreed to take Joe Harris into pure cap space for 2nd's and helped the nets free up enough space to resign him without going way over.

I agree on this point. As stand alone decisions, I didn’t mind so much Weaver rolling over our cap space another year, or picking up a historically great 3 point shooter. But combining those two decisions on Harris (who turned out to be washed up) was not taking advantage of the leverage he had.

Was just bad value for eating that much money regardless of the Cam thing too. Weaver is not great at his jobtheBigLip wrote:Billl wrote:jbk1234 wrote:

He came to terms immediately, before the Pistons could present an offer sheet

Pistons took themselves out of the running by blowing their cap on Harris before FA even started (or at least started officially)

Yeah, no. That's not how this actually works. Teams are talking to agents through back channels unofficially well before any offer sheets are officially given. That's why you see a flurry of guys signing immediately. They know which deals are available.

This. Cam & his agent knew what Detroit was willing to offer. They knew what the Nets were willing to offer. The writers that provided estimates ahead of FA, knew the ballpark of both offers. Detroit knew Cam wasn't going to sign with them before the Harris trade.

This is all correct.
I can see the Nets trading CamJo for Ivey this off-season. The Pistons would want the Nets to take on bad money with this deal. Who would that be if this happened?
