Damn man, that's too bad. It's crazy that he's only 30. You'd expect him to be 35-36 because of his injuries and being the 'vet' with Thad and Temple.

Re: Otto Porter Jr. Announces Retirement
The raptors' last 3 major free agent signings have been:
Schroder - traded for literally nothing
McDaniels - arguably the worst player in the league
Otto Porter - 2 years before his retirement
Maybe we shouldn't count on cap space making a difference for this team.

Re: Otto Porter Jr. Announces Retirement
I remember hearing whispers when he was on the Bulls that Otto did not take care of his body. But after the run with the Warriors, I hoped he had changed his ways.
There was a clip of him working out in the weight room last summer, and he was doing really basic stuff, but clearly suffering through it. I thought at the time "Man, I can do what what you're doing, you should be WAY ahead of me". And it wasn't like he was recovering from some major injury, it was just a damn toe. It was so obvious that he wasn't used to that level of intensity in his workouts.
Plus, let's face it, he didn't exactly look svelte coming in this season. In the 2015 playoffs against his, he was really trim. That should be his playing weight, unless the Raps told him he was going to be playing small ball C this season. Otto's just lazy. So I don't feel bad for him.

We mustn't forget DeMarre Carroll and Hidayet Turkoglu. Anyway, it's obvious what this FO's plan is for any significant cap space, trade for the upcoming FA at the deadline and re-sign him. The only FA's we go after are Exception signings and those are never that exciting for a team in Canada.
I do feel like we might end up with NAW next year though. Who knows.

Wild that we were expecting a guy that retired this season to get rotational minutes. He at least went out an NBA champion which is great for him.

Exception bandaids. You aren't getting a much bigger name to come here until the team is at the very least, playing to win.

Also sub 10% of the cap in each situation. I would be that <8% of the cap signings have a high risk of low / no impact on the team overall.
How many guys signed in FA making 4-10 million end up being key contributors? I'd be interested.

Re: Otto Porter Jr. Announces Retirement
I feel bad for Otto - he had NBA size, skill and IQ. He was a real contributor to a championship and a super complimentary piece.
WAS - CHI - GSW - TOR, all of those teams thought that he'd have a prominent role and to a degree, he did (us excluded).
The sad part is retiring at 30. Wishing him the best of luck moving forward and hope that he catches on in a front office or coaching role, if that's what he wants.
On paper, he is the perfect player in today's league without any holes and could play 2-5 pretty unhindered.

If we're strictly talking about guys that didn't re-sign with their team, I would think that it's a short list.

Would be cool if he could get a job in the organization, perhaps as a potential future shooting coach.
