Without knowing more about him, this one is a bit of a head-scratcher to me. As you noted, his PFF score is pretty bad. Scouting report on him seemed to be that he was not very impactful as a pass rusher but also not known as a run-stopper. Some have speculated that he essentially replaces Kinlaw. Since Kinlaw was often seen getting pushed backwards, not sure spending $10M for that specialty is the best use of our cap space. I'm assuming Kris Kocurek saw something more positive in Elliott, I just don't know what that is.
6.9M guaranteed for Kinlaw

There's the Greenlaw replacement.

Solid replacement and hopefully when Greenlaw is 100% come November/December, Kendricks can be the 3rd LB on base downs.

Something to watch, but most likely they won't jump in unless they are released and Bosa signs a cheap 1 yr deal

Kendricks seems like a solid safety plan if Dre can't go to start the year. He isn't as good in coverage as he used to be, but he's still a solid player. Oren Burks played pretty well when we would bring him in at SLB last year, but he really got picked on in the SB.

49ers trade for Maliek Collins for a 7th round pick. Solid player, only 28. 5 sacks and 18 QB hits last year.

Seems like a solid move. Durable, competent rotational DT. He's not cheap, per se, at almost $8.5 million, but he's not exorbitant, either. And as said, we just need bodies along the DL who can eat up snaps.

Other benefits of the trade vs. a FA move are that it doesn't affect the comp pick formula, and if a younger player beats Collins out, you can cut him with no financial penalty.

I've come around to liking the free agency moves thus far. The big name free agent signings are fun, but I heard on a podcast yesterday that of the Top 13 free agent signings from the summer of 2022 in terms of APY, 7 are no longer on those teams and another (Reddick) might be on the move. Floyd, Gross-Matos, Elliott, Kendricks, Collins, these are all short-term contracts to fill holes and keep our cap situation under control. They tell me that there is going to be considerable roster turnover in 2025 and 2026, but also that we want to get Aiyuk locked down for the long term.

Very interested to see where the Eagles players (Reddick, Sweat) and Chargers go. Trade or release? Those are pro bowl players who would improve several contenders

Restructure with Juice, but apparently not a pay cut. Don't love that. I kind of hate restructures. Juice is unique, but we need to have a plan for life without him in the very near future.

Very solid replacement (Kendricks' PFF grade of 72.3 was actually a tick higher than Dre's 69.3) and not surprising since he and Brandon Staley spent last season together. Greenlaw is faster and more athletic than Kendricks since Eric is 32, but as a replacement until Greenlaw is healthy he should do just fine.

Maliek Collins seems to be a depth pick-up. Not a starter for a championship level team, but he has had games where he had good penetration on the interior. And especially good that he is known for having a great motor with relentless tenacity. A welcome relief after watching Chase Young jogging at half-speed in the playoffs.

I'm not sure Aiyuk or Deebo will have much of a trade market. Seems to be something of a glut of receivers on the market, granted those two are clearly superior to Williams, who has seen a slump in production and has struggled to stay healthy.

Maybe Deebo actually has more value, as he's a pretty unique player, but other teams are aware of his weaknesses, too, and may be reluctant to deal for a somewhat older player with injury issues. Hard to see us getting a first for him at this point. Maybe we should have taken the Jets' offer and drafted Garrett Wilson two years ago....

Reading Maiocco's article, it's hard to say if this is a pure restructure, or if he also took a bit of a salary cut. Kind of seems like Maiocco is conflating the two a bit.
