OT: Filthy DeMar highlights vs Pacers

Post#1 » by alevirfe » Thu Mar 14, 2024 7:03 am

since its slow around here...

DeMar with some nasty drives, and 1s, and of course midrange jumpers

did he do this deliberately to improve the Raps (Pacers) draft pick? he really got us

He’s a great player still at his age. Hope he hitches onto a contender next
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

What's impressive about Derozan is that he keeps making incremental improvements in his offensive game every year. When he left the Raptors he was still not the most efficient player or an above average facilitator. By the time he left the Spurs his efficiency had become elite and he became one of the better facilitators in the league for his position. Impressively, he's been able to sustain that level of play well into his mid-30s. He's always been an iron man that rarely misses games and regularly plays 75-80 games a season.

I just looked at the NBA all time scoring list and he ranks 37. By the end of the season he may even move into the top 30. He's about to pass legends like Parish, Barkley, Iverson, Ray Allen and Patrick Ewing. If he is able to average above 15ppg in the next 2 seasons he'll move into the top 20 of all time, pretty crazy.

For all his limitations defensively, dude had a great career and is an easy hall of famer.

Agreed, I can’t believe he’s still on the Bulls.

Given their incompetent management, I think two obvious reasons were that they were either not interested in trading him at all, or were asking way too much for him.

The other reasons are more practical fit questions. Most teams looking to add a guy like D view themselves as contenders. He is an awesome 2pt scorer, but a weak defender, ball dominant, and doesn’t shoot 3s — so as we all know he’s kind of a giveth-and-taketh-away player. That isn’t exactly an easy plug and play fit for contending teams who are usually looking just to add very specific skill sets to complement a championship-calibre roster.

So I’m not really sure which of the top 14-18 teams in the league would be giving up picks or real salary to run with an expiring DeMar.

Yeah I think it's tough with Derozan.

Ideally he's the best 6th man in the league on a contender who can come in and take over a game offensively. Imagine him as a 6th man on the Nuggets, Celtics or Bucks...would be crazy.

But he's still good enough to be a #1 scoring option on a middle of the pack team, but yes he is ball dominant and his lack of 3 point shooting is an issue.

Really hope RJ does work with DeMar in this summer, even for just a week (though there's the Olympics in the way). How DeMar trains in the offseason directly correlates to the stuff you see he does in the game. His dribbling coach posts clips of DeMar's training of shots that look identical to the ones he makes at the end of games. Main thing is repetition - I know many NBA players train like that but I dunno, maybe DeMar repeats the moves way more times.

Demar (similar to Pascal) really milked every last drip of potential they had in them.

Really speaks to the work ethic.

That's wild that he's close to passing household names like Iverson, Barkley, and Ewing. What an underrated legend.

I watched that 4th and OT, he was a man on fire, really tough blow for the Pacers, especially after that Siakam block I thought they had it in the bag, what a beautiful game. Hope Coby White is alright, that looked like a nasty injury.

I really hope he latches on a contender and plays the 6th man role. Hell, I would take him back here off the bench in a hearbeat.

But he prob will go get 25M and put up 20ppg on a **** team
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

DeMar remains one of the most under appreciated players in the NBA in my opinion

Does he re-sign in Chicago? I hope he lands on a better team than the Bulls, he deserves to be in a more favourable situation, but that comes at a cost. He'd have to take a significant pay-cut, along with a more limited role

he's a very difficult fit for a contender. He's great on this kind of team: Psuedo playoff team that MIGHT win a round. I've watched him in the playoffs, the deficiencies in his game are glaring and easy to exploit in the playoffs.

If he played in the 80s or 90s he'd be perceived in a very different way, and probably have a different legacy.

One of the craftiest scorers from arc-to-hoop that I've ever watched.

Does he go in as a Raptor? I'd assume that he does but it's hard to tell how he feels about the organization as a whole.
