Cody Williams (Colorado)?
Have any of you watched him play?
He's now the #1 in many mock drafts.

He's #3 on my BB. He's a long term play but there is a lot to like.

This guy is so young, inexperienced. Grabbing him and building around him shifts our timeline greatly.
Do you see him playing next to Trae...or replacing him as franchise savior?
Bleacher ReportCody Williams | SF | Colorado
Age: 19, Freshman
Size: 6'8", 190 lbs
Pro comparison: Jerami Grant
There isn't a more efficient, projected one-and-done freshman than Cody Williams. Despite lacking high-level creation skill or shooting ability, he's averaging 14.0 points on 62.3 percent, mostly by picking his spots wisely, capitalizing on driving lanes, using his positional size to finish, moving without the ball, making rhythm threes and playing hard.
He's now expected to miss a month with a wrist injury, which came after consecutive 21-point games.
A coveted archetype (6'9" scoring wing), efficient offense, strong intangibles and defensive effort have put Williams in the same conversation as any other projected top-five pick.
Scouts will want to see more perimeter shotmaking (six threes in seven games) before considering Williams in the No. 1 overall discussion. But he could have a chance of getting in there, particularly with Alexandre Sarr's offensive questions and the poor shooting and decision-making from Ron Holland and Isaiah Collier.

Re: Cody Williams (Colorado)?
Haven't seen him much atop many mocks, not that should mean anything this early in the process. But he's one of the guys the Hawks should target if they want an elite wing next to Trae or any Hawks roster iteration period.
Considering his brother is an all NBA caliber defender, he should be able to figure out how to score in the league fairly easy.

The dude has been injured for months now... I'm sure his handlers aren't in a hurry to rush him back considering his high standing with this draft class once fully healthy.

Re: Cody Williams (Colorado)?
Tankathon has him at #16.... long way from top of the board and unless something changes absolutely not a position of need. Hawks need to draft a versatile C. Haven't had one in like ever. Horford doesn't count. Too little

So after digging in on this kid, he is really talented.
He's the younger brother of OKC Guard Jalen Williams and looks to be the more talented athlete of the two. There is All Star level potential here. He's really quick and athletic which allows him to really thrive in transition opportunities.
Biggest issues I see are a lack of strength and polish; at 6'8" and 190 pounds, the kid is likely a couple of seasons away from being a rotation player. Also there is a ton of overlap between he and Jalen, but theoretically they could play together if either of their outside shooting improves. He seems likely to go in the top 5, but would be a worthy trade up candidate. He wouldn't quite be a HR swing, but has a chance to be an above average starter at Forward.

I do like what I see from Cody, but he is so damn young.
Likely 2+ years away from being a contributor on a competitive team.

Re: Cody Williams (Colorado)?
SB NationCody Williams, F, Colorado
Williams feels like one of the bigger wildcards in a draft class without much consensus at the moment. The case for taking him in the top-10 is mostly based on tools and vibes: a 6’8 wing with long arms, Williams can fly in transition and make some beautiful finishes around the rim. His family history — he’s the younger brother of Oklahoma City Thunder wing Jalen Williams, who suddenly looks like one of the better young players in the league — might help his stock, too. Williams’ numbers look good at first glance (61.9 percent true shooting), but there are deeper issues with his game watching the tape. Williams does not yet have a plan for how to score against a set defense. He’s making 40 percent of his threes ... but he’s only taken 15 attempts from deep all year, and has a tendency to turn down open looks. He can capitalize when a teammate creates an advantage for him, but it’s worrying that he’s a potential top-10 pick without being one of the best players on his team (Tristan da Silver and K.J. Simpson lead the Buffaloes). I might be too scared to take Williams in the top-10 at this point, but he’s got the right bloodlines and looks like an NBA player when he walks into the gym, which could be enough in a weak draft.

Dude has some serious potential...and that detached, disaffected look in his eyes like a young Kawhi.

The AthleticSam Vecenie wrote:Cody Williams | 6-8 wing | 19 years old | Colorado
The brother of Oklahoma City Thunder wing Jalen Williams, Cody Williams looks like the kind of prized high-end prospect who can pressure the rim, pass, make plays and potentially defend across multiple positions. Fitting the big wing archetype to a T at 6-foot-8 with long arms, Williams has showcased the ability to play some point guard this season in addition to attacking in transition and slashing from the wing in a straight line. He’s averaging 14.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 59.2 percent from the field. He’s also made 47.1 percent from 3, although NBA teams are concerned about his jumper translating to the next level given that he doesn’t take many 3s in college.
The biggest questions scouts have regard his self-creation upside. To be an NBA wing in 2024 is to be able to create and knock down pull-up jumpers. That’s just not a part of Williams’ game at this stage, and it wasn’t in high school, either. If he can showcase any upside as a pull-up shooter, teams would feel better about taking him in the top three. Even so, most evaluators have him in the top-six range at this point.

Re: Cody Williams (Colorado)?
ESPN InsiderCan Cody Williams find some momentum going into the pre-draft process?
Williams was near the top of ESPN's rankings in January, but has since struggled to build his case as a potential early-draft selection after a string of inconsistent showings underscored the fact that he won't necessarily be a ready-made rotation player upon arrival in the NBA. There's quite a bit to like about Williams in the long run due to his positional size, unselfish style and room to grow offensively, but his inability to consistently impose himself on games as a scorer at the college level raises fair questions about his readiness and where he projects on the offensive end. His defensive ability gives him a good base as a prospect, but he'll need to start making shots, refining his ball skills and showing more aggressiveness as a scorer for teams to trust him.
Colorado is on the bubble entering the week and needs to snag as many wins as it can, beginning Wednesday night in the Pac-12 quarterfinals. Scouts in Vegas will be watching Williams to see if he can channel some of what made him so interesting earlier in the year. Much will come down to interviews and workouts for Williams and lottery teams in the end, but any favor he can win back in the postseason could matter as front offices split hairs over the top prospects in the coming months.

Re: Cody Williams (Colorado)?
The AthleticNBA Draft prospects to watch during March Madness
Cody Williams, 6-8 freshman forward, Colorado
Of particular note for talent evaluators is the Colorado squad that could have three players selected in the upcoming draft. While senior guard K.J. Simpson is a first-round sleeper and German forward Tristan da Silva a sniper candidate in Round 2, the focus will be on Williams.
The brother of Oklahoma City’s Jalen Williams, Cody has had an up-and-down freshman year for the Buffaloes. He has compelling physical tools as a true wing who stands 6-8 and is comfortable pushing in transition and shooting floaters on the move.
However, he’s also had trouble putting potential into practice at times. He’s a 70.8 percent foul shooter and has only taken 35 3-point attempts all season, with a low push shot that is hard to get to on the move. On the ball, Williams keeps his head up for hit-ahead passes, but that has mostly been as a one-way, right-handed driver.
Overall, Williams’ percentages and numbers are solid (13.7 ppg on 59.0 percent shooting; 17.5 PER in Pac-12 play), but teams looking at taking him in the top 10 — or even top five — will want to see more signs of star-level ceiling. In particular, analytics models might not be a huge fan of Williams given his relatively low rates of blocks, steals, rebounds and assists. Defensively, opponents don’t feel his size; he has a habit of giving up ground then letting his thin frame get nudged out of the way...
The other issue for scouts is whether he plays at all. Williams sat out a weekend series against Oregon and Oregon State with an ankle injury and missed a month earlier this season with a wrist problem. Colorado enters the Pac-12 tournament on the NCAA Tournament bubble and likely needs to win at least once to make the field; otherwise, you’ll need to check the NIT pairings to find more of Williams.

Re: Cody Williams (Colorado)?
he'll be long gone by the time ATL picks. I would consider him if I had #1 overall pick. It's a terrible draft, but this kid is a taller version of his brother. He was more off than on this season, but the potential is there. Just need to hit the weight room a bit and hang out with his brother working out over the summer. His brother is a stud, well on his way to being an all star. This kid is better than his brother at teh same age. That's good enough for me.
