I'll tell you, Mitchell looks to me like the most supportive teammate of anyone who's ever been rumored to want out in the history of sports. Merrill jersey in the 3-point contest, Niang Gang hat getting off of planes, stumping for Allen for ASG and Okoro for all-defense, deciding to step into a facilitator role when his star teammates go out rather than play hero ball, etc.

He may end up being traded in the offseason if he doesn't extend and the Cavs think he won't re-sign in free agency in 2025. And he may not extend simply because his maximum career earnings path is signing a 2-year deal when his current contract is up so he can sign a 35% max ASAP. And that'll lead to another two years of "what will Mitchell do" hand-wringing over that two-year period, like we saw with LeBron. Just a result of rational actors doing their best to optimize their long-term path.

But I don't see Donovan asking out because he simply doesn't have to.
