Let’s say Steph Curry is available. Best offer?

Post#1 » by MessiahUjiri » Wed Mar 20, 2024 4:06 am

It’s clear the Warriors aren’t good enough to win anymore, and their payroll is no longer justified.

Rationally speaking, one option is to dangle Steph Curry for a trade offer. It would have to be a team where he is comfortable going, out of respect.

He is owed $56M and $59M the next 2 years. He can still score 25-30 points, and would be a killer addition to a team that needs a point guard.

The Warriors would like a rebuilding package. What’s the best offer?

Just quoting Steph from a few years he specifically said the only other team he would play for is Charlotte. So I'm guessing Charlotte would be his destination.

Bridges sign n trade + our lottery pick this year. Gives the Warriors a good young player and a potential top 5 pick in the draft to start the rebuild.

A) you cant combine sign and trade and this yrs pick
B) why would bridges go there? What contract is he getting? Im doubtful they want bridges at 30+M
C) other contenders outbid this easily

They don't need to fully match salary, they have 35M cap space if they stretch and waive Bertans.
There won't be bidding really, Curry says he wants to go and GSW will find a way to send him there, it's not the Lillard situation.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

No way Steph goes to Charlotte. That is laughable.

Charlotte can’t build a winner. Hornets would be an East coast version of GSW - maybe not even that good. So why wouldn’t Steph just retire in San Fran? Both places offer similar mediocre chance at another ring.

Curry only leaves to ring chase. And if he won’t do that - because he can’t ring chase in Charlotte - then he doesn’t leave.

This thread has been done recently If I remember correctly, and it didn’t go very well. When an all time great at an advanced age gets discussed like this, it’s problematic. What the Warriors would want in return is probably way off standard ‘Value’ based thought process from fans. It’s hard to engage in.

I think Curry and GS are married together til the end. And they’re both very happy with it…But if they did split..

Bertans, Micic, Mann, NSJ, 2024 top 5 pick (delayed so it’s salary matching) seem to be enough matching salary for Curry. Add in 2-3 2027 firsts. If there was a deal, I think it would look like that. That sets Charlotte up to keep Bridges and use the full MLE.. Take advantage of the rookie contracts of Miller/Williams.

Outside of Charlotte..

I’m still going Presti... Giddey, Dieng, Houston lottery pick then 3-4 future firsts.

Orlando should offer Black, Howard, their 2024 first, and 2-3 future firsts..

He literally said this out of his own mouth.

Just to make you feel better he's not leaving. He will retire a Warrior.

Giving up the greatest player in franchise history so we can pay a wife beater $30 million a year, yeah, that’s gonna be a no from me.

And I have a list of top 3 places I would live if not where I do. I can quote that list, but no one wants to hear the qualifiers that follow each circumstance.

Curry was asked a question, responded and if he were on RGM tell you - many qualifiers are to follow. Common sense really.

Listen, if Charlotte can produce a team where Curry is the final piece to a Chip, of course Curry would want to go there and fulfill that fantasy. Curry might be in his 60’s before that is a reality in Charlotte.

Miami and Orlando would be amazing fits. Both due to roster and great place for Curry to spend his twilight playing years.

If Magic could get Curry for Black + Jett + Cap space + 24 1st + better of Nugs/Magic 25 1st that would be ideal.

Magic could keep powder dry using WCJ + Isaac plus 4x 1sts (25/27/29/31) + swaps as needed (so the Mitchell or Gobert haul package) for another star. Probably a center.

Star Center (maybe some Embiid please :D)
Banchero
Wagner
Suggs
Curry

Bench of ring chasers and Anthony (Curry load management), Ingles, M. Wagner, etc.

I LOVE this!

It saves Golden State a fortune, jumpstarts their rebuild. I think Orlando would need to throw in another future first though. It doesn't matter. Their current team with Curry would be an instant contender assuming a bit more incremental improvement from Banchero, Wagner and Suggs. I wouldn't even bother reaching for another center. WCJ, Mo and Goga is enough.

That’s a really expensive group.. The 2025-2026 season with two super max, a max, Suggs probably making 18-20, Paolo making 15. Then the next year Paolo gets paid..

I think just adding Curry is good enough. Orlando is pacing about 50 wins this year. And development should be expected from their young trio. Don’t see why they need to add two superstars, they already have one and a secondary star..

Curry’s contract expires before Paolo gets his max so they’d have a lot of flexibility.

If you go “Isaac, Ingles, Howard, Black” for Curry.. you could stay over the cap..early bird rights should be enough for Goga? Like a 3yr30 with player option? Seems plenty... Keep Wagner, Mo, Harris..and the MLE.

If you ring chase and win, what do you really gain from that?

If you go somewhere people think you can't win, you have a chance to be a legend.

I hate it. There’s no centerpiece, no one we can pitch as the post-Curry future. Just a pair of mediocre prospects and some non-lotto picks. And the thought that you could land Curry while keeping most of your assets in reserve for other moves is borderline insane

If this thread is indicative of the caliber of offers we would get for Steph then I can 100% guarantee we’d let him play out his deal and walk in FA if he is dead set on leaving.

Are we going to start "Let's say Wemby is available. Best offer?" next? Because that's as realistic as Curry being traded.

If you really can’t tell the difference between dirty play and domestic violence you need to take a step back and learn a few things.

I know the difference, but to act like Draymond is some good guy is crazy. The guy is dirty and he's lucky Nurkic didn't press charges for the slap to the face. This basketball not MMA.
