Our remaining games

I think we can probably win at least one of those Wizards games, if not both.

It would be easy to assume the Grizz can beat the Pistons twice, but honestly, who knows with this team? Either way, this season is going down to the wire.

If we do somehow luck into the #1, we should trade back with the Spurs for our pick back next yr and possibly another asset right?

Getting AI with #1 means we won't have gotten VC in later years, or the offensive opportunities wouldn't have been here for VC with AI.
Agreed. My point was how the crappy expansion rules screwed us out of the #1 pick and the only other time we've had it was when there wasn't a clear-cut #1 at the top and we picked Bargs.
With our luck, we'll get the #1 again this year when the situation is the same, but if that does happen hopefully the 3 times of bad luck will finally break the curse so the next time we get a #1 pick it won't come with any strings attached and we can get the clear-cut favourite.
DelAbbot wrote:If HS were allowed in 2006 we would have drafted Greg Oden and have a wasted #1 just as much as Bargs.
It all evened out.
If HS were allowed in 2006, we would have just as likely picked Kevin Durant who was as highly regarded as Oden, if not more than he was depending on the GM and needs of the team picking.

Even in the Bargs draft there was still Aldridge/Roy/Kyle/Milsap/Gay!
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars
Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid
There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Winnable games for each are bolded.
Grizz play the Lakers late in the season when they could be resting players for the play-in tournament. Same with the Nuggets and Cavs so those 3 games could be winnable despite not being so otherwise. Maximum winnable games: 6 games
Same goes with the two (2) Heat games we have to end the season. If their playoff seeding is already set, they could be resting their starters and those games might be winnable despite not being so otherwise. Maximum winnable games: 6 games
Assuming both TOR and MEM win the games they should against teams that are worse than them record-wise, the race to #6 could come down to the final games of the season and whether the Cavs, Lakers, Nuggets, and Heat are resting their starters and/or more focused on the post-season than trying to pick up a win against the Raptors or Grizzlies to close out the regular season.

Yes, but only Bargs (#1), Aldridge (#2), Roy (#6), or Gay (#8) were among the most popular considerations for the #1 pick.
Adam Morrison was a stretch at #3, Tyrus Thomas (#4) was picked higher than projected and then traded to Chicago, Shelden Williams (#5) didn't have enough upside or pedigree as a senior to go first overall, and Randy Foye (#7) was picked higher than expected before being traded to Minnesota by way of Portland. Patrick O'Bryant (#9) and Mouhamed Sane (#10) were also selected within the top 10 picks, but neither of them were in consideration for the top pick, stuck around for long or did much anyways.
Given the above options, any of Aldridge, Roy or Gay could have arguably been a better choice than Bargs, but we already had Skip to My Lou, Mo Pete, Vince Carter, Jalen Rose, Chris Bosh, Donyell Marshall, and a massive hole at C, so unless we thought Roy was going to replace VC, Gay was going to replace Jalen, Aldridge and Bosh could play together, or had a strategy to draft BPA regardless of our positional need for a C, I'm not sure how any GM other than the ones on this board would have made a different choice if in the same situation.

I don't think we would get another asset. Next years pick should be a top 10 for the Spurs even if the Raptors win #1 pick. I'd trade back just for the pick, gladly.

There was a strong possibility of us picking Aldridge would could have played C next to Bosh and they were friends (?). Colangelo had to zag for the international pick as if it's a hidden golden mine. He should have stuck with a more known commodity in a collegiate player

2006-2007 Toronto Raptors Depth Chart:
G - TJ Ford | Jose Calderon | Anthony Parker
F - Mo Pete | Jorge Garbajosa | Andrea Bargnani | Joey Graham
C - Chris Bosh | Rasho Nesterovic
If you replace Bargs with Aldridge, would we still place 1st in the division (47-35) and lose to the VC-lead NJ Nets in the first round or would the outcome be much different?
What about the following season when we place 2nd in the division (41-41) and lose to a Dwight Howard-Rashard Lewis-Hedo Turkoglu-Jameer Nelson led Orlando Magic team?
How much of a difference would it have made to have Jose Caldern - TJ Ford - Anthony Parker - Carlos Delfino - Jamario Moon - Jason Kapono - Chris Bosh - Kris Humphries - LaMarcus Aldridge - Rasho Nesterovic rather than Bargs in replacement of LMA?
While I agree the Bargs pick was a bad one, I'm not convinced swapping him out for LMA would have led to outcomes that were very much different the next couple of seasons, but that's very difficult to predict since it would have affected a lot of other decision we would have subsequently made.

Thr Grizzlies don't really need to tank as much as us since they keep their pick whether it's 6 or 7 so hopefully they'll win all the games they're supposed to (Spurs, Pistons x 2) while we intentionally lose the games we should win (Wizards × 2) by playing our scrubs (i.e., lots of McDaniels and Temple) and possibly sitting Gradey, KO, and/or Nwora.

If the Raps finish with the 6th seed there's a 46% they'll retain their pick wheres its 31% if they finish 7th, so their race against Memphis is pretty significant.
Bobby and Masai overestimated this teams potential twice when they traded for Poeltl at the deadline and again in the summer when they signed Schroder instead of trading OG/Siakam.

You’re telling me that you see no value difference between winning the lotto and us getting the 7th pick and conveying it? Cause that’s essentially what you’re implying

This is what kills me about the crowd that says our seeding won’t matter in the lottery. 15 percentage points is huge.

I'm less concerned about the Indy pick now that we improved our chances of keeping ours. Like others have said, if we keep our pick, I am fairly certain this Indy pick and/or the Det pick are being moved in a trade.
GS is not a good team, so let's not get carried away. Indy's D is still ranked 28th in the NBA and that just won't cut it in the playoffs. 1st round exit is inevitable.

Given the above, I wouldn't be surprised if the order at the top of the draft after the lottery has been decided ended up being something like:

#3 - Toronto Raptors
#4 - Charlotte Hornets
#5 - Washington Wizards
#6 - Detroit Pistons
Sorry, but you wouldn't be surprised if something with an 8% chance happened lol?

This tanking is pretty cringe. You'll likely end up giving a better value pick in next years draft instead if you avoid handing it over this year.
