Keeping a top-6 pick this year > Keeping an 11-15 pick next year.

it's not cringe when both Barnes and Poeltl got injured at the same time....you can't do anything about that. Season was over at that point....not tanking the rest of the season would be braindead.
this is shaping up to be another tampa like season where they can jump into the top 4

We have no idea where this team will be next season, though. But we know where this team is right now.

Top 6 actually means a decent chance of top 4 also.
With 3 picks in this draft plus young player development plus whatever move they make of Bruce Brown, we could actually be a playoff (at least a play in) team next year.
That ‘25 pick will be closer to 15-19.
Top 6 pick >> 15-19 pick

Tanking is the right move sometimes. I'm having a hard time seeing how it is in this situation. This years draft looks garbage, and yes we can never be sure etc, but I'd rather have the 10th pick next year than the 7th pick this year. That is a very possible outcome btw.
This is where teams get into trouble; when the GM is more concerned about their own interests than the team's best interest. From Masai's point of view, it will be super embarassing to lose the #7 pick this year. He'd rather defer the problem and hope for a miracle where the team is good next year. That's how he got into trouble with guys like FVV, Siakam, OG, etc. Masai thought the team would be good this year; he was wrong. I have no confidence he'll be less wrong this time.

How isn't it the right move in this situation? Two of our starters (one of which is our best player) suffered season-ending injuries. Another one of our starters experienced a horrific personal event that effectively ended his season.
This year's draft doesn't look any better or worse than any other draft. There is no obvious generational talent at the top, but that's most drafts. There are still plenty of interesting prospects available.
We also need to be drafting talent sooner rather than later so that all of our player timelines align.

Because you can get your obligation out of the way and keeo your likely top 10 pick next year.

Because Masai loves FVV and Siakam like his son.
Did you not see he cry for them at the press conference?

I disagree that a Top 10 pick next year is likely. We're going to have a full off-season of further development of Scottie, Quickly, Barrett, Dick & Ochai with Darko's elite development staff and adding more young talent to the mix, including potentially a Top 6 pick.
There's a decent chance we're outside the lottery next year. I think Top 6 in this draft is far greater than Top 13-22 in next year's draft.

That's the thing. Masai didn't do this to get a top pick, it's already too late for that to be anything but a pipe dream. He's doing it to avoid giving up pick #7.

That was the logic that got them in trouble this year, when the talent was much higher.

He's delusional about this core + whatever rookie from 2024 draft and FA signings for 2024/2025 season. We will be picking around 10-13th in 2025 draft and that's more valuable than 6th this year.
I really want to see this pick convey to the Spurs - end season 6th worst and then have someone below us jump and bump us to 7th. It will be a pie in his face.

Re: Tank World Order (The Remix Vol. IV)
For once I'm off the tank.
I'm rooting for these g-leaguers to get some W's so we can convey the 2024 pick.
It will be long term positive for us because it won't cause Masai to go for it again 2024/2025 prematurely.

It's possible we could have the 10th pick next year IF we convey the pick this year. It is actually NOT possible to have the 7th pick this year. The selection is protected for picks 1 to 6, otherwise it conveys. Also, while YOU may be embarrassed about conveying the pick, the Raptors won't be. They traded it with an expectation that it would convey, probably this year, but certainly at some point. The injuries to Barnes, Poeltl, even Boucher, combined with Barrett's tragic loss put them in a situation where a 7th place finish was almost certainly the best result, and 6th was possible by maximizing development opportunities for all their young players. The pick is actually more likely to convey than not even if we finish 6th, but it would be mismanagement, really, not to maximize our chances at a top 4 pick in this situation.
I continue to be amazed at the number of folks here who genuinely don't understand what we were doing last year. The Raptors clearly intended to see how far a core group of Barnes, Siakam, OG, FVV and Poeltl could get with a new coach/system. The Houston offer to FVV blew way past their price point for him, and they pivoted to a rebuild. Extension talks for Siakam and Trent stopped. Schroder was signed as a stopgap while the work of lining up deals geared up. And now we've moved to a new core with more talent incoming and flexibilty moving forward. There's no "hoping for miracles" involved. If the lottery balls drop in our favour, so be it, but either way, we're moving forward, with a plan that does not include years of the misery that Philly fans went through during "the process" or that Pistons fans have endured for years now. In the meantime, enjoy the losses.

That's why he didn't match Houston's massive overpay for Fred and traded Pascal to Indiana.
