Re: Jontay Porter betting on himself
Honestly, he'll probably be banned from the league.
The NBA will have no issue making an example of him.
However, it's going to be nuts when notable players get caught too. It's naive to think a ton of players aren't doing the same thing, they just have to not be so dumb about it.

Re: Jontay Porter betting on himself
I don't think he did any betting.
Jontay gets in trouble because the bookies set a line for his props
And he has an extensive history, but they're treating him like he's Mikal Bridges, never missing a game, playing consist minutes.
If big time bettors see the props, and Jontay's a game time decision, then he cleared to "give it ago" why wouldn't they take they take the under?

This isn’t only going to be a player and ref problem.
Gambler have said trainers, reporters, etc. all can give good inside info that might give an edge.
Basically anyone around the team has info they can monetize.

It isn't insider info. He literally took himself out and it's not a coincidence with the surge of bets. He was obviously faking injuries. Don't be gullible.

Not sure if this is a response. He almost certainly is a participant based on what we know currently. I am talking about one of the other many ways this will train wreck.

This guy probably thought he was a genius meanwhile DraftKings Staff are looking at eachother like who the **** would bet on Johntay Porter of all people.
I think a simple solution to this problem is to force gambling websites to withhold payouts over $50K for clearance. Sort of how if you win the lottery they verify if you followed all the rules prior to paying you out. This would prevent an NBA player from risking it all for under $50K.

His locker has been cleaned out in the Raptors dressing room. Just waiting on the news he's been released.
Damn bro really threw away his career, ans honestly he was showing some potential.

How the NBA handles this will be more interesting and impactful than this props bet scheme.

Too stupid, just securing a 1 year vet min contract as 3rd stringer stretch 5 would've set him up for life...

Now let’s do the parts where players are benched for whole quarters because Fan Duel placed phone calls. The hypocrisy of the NBA.

NBA isn't fooling me. This can't be the only time this has happened. You're not gonna scapegoat one journeyman and say case closed.

Re: Jontay Porter betting on himself
Jontay Porter was stupid but the NBA have also brought this on themselves with how much they are shoving sports gambling down everyone's throats.
It's probably not the first time and probably won't be the last, either.

This thread brought to you by ClutchBets24/7. Get in the game!
Next year as part of the rookie education program they'll talk about the importance of investing, not getting baby-trapped, and why you shouldn't adjust your game to hit a parlay.
Good job, NBA, you brought this on yourself.

Damn at least bet the over on yourself
Betting the under just makes it so much worse. You could almost respect it a bit if he was betting the over and balling out

Reminds me of this. An Aussie comedian Who has a knack for immitating famous voices (Billy Birmingham), but a lot of his stuff was to do with current/former cricket players and commentators. Anyway, the story behind this clip was a fictional exchange while commentating an international game between Hansie Cronje, South African cricket captain who was implicated in match-fixing and subsequently banned for life, and a former Australian captain, Mark Taylor.

Re: Jontay Porter betting on himself
I'm guessing someone who never really gambles suddenly put up a huge sum of money on that awkward stat. There is so many different bets, it is really not hard to hide that you are cheating unless you are dumb.
