Well the wnba is losing money every year and is subsidized by the nba.

Wnba players are already using smaller balls so its not the same game anyway. If there were more dunks due to lowered rims, I bet viewership would go up.

At any rate its not like they are doing well currently anyway....

If she plays in the BIG3 and isn’t successful, does affect her mystique/marketability even if she’s the still awesome in the WNBA?

I assume most of her earnings are going to come via endorsements so she needs to figure out which playing league will maximize those opportunities, if she has to choose that is.

I imagine whoever drafts her wont want her risking injury playing in the Big3.

I hope she accepts it. Thats a heavy bag and I actually did enjoy watching the league for a bit.

Probably not. I dont think its a stretch to assume she would be a nightly DNP-CD in the NBA, and she would be going against a lot of former pros in this league. Also the Big3 audience is pretty minimal so I dont think anyone will even care if she treats it like a rec game at the local YMCA

she'll still be able to whatever she needs to do for her 'legacy' in wnba even if she skips this year for Big3. but she, like every other pro athlete, is a bad injury away from forgetting about setting any legacies. i think she should take it. not sure what her sponsors will think though.

great move by Ice Cube either way.

Yeah smaller ball and shorter 3 point line already. Not sure why shorter rims would be such a big deal. Would require drastic changes to women's league development tho, probably not easy for shooters to adjust right away etc...

Lowering the rim IMO, is just basically giving up. Like, I shared many times that I have depression, and my psychiatrist sometimes say that I should get a dog or cat, but I feel, if I do that - that is just giving up. So yeah, lowering the rim, is an equivalent of lonely person getting a cat, I do not like the idea.

Also, WNBA is just not NBA. WNBA as mentioned, probably not even the most prestigious league in Womens basketball, it probably has some prestige because it borrows NBA's IP, but thats it, all the women players also play in foreign leagues, so will they just play 10 foot rim basketball for 7 months, but then gather to play WNBA 0n 8 foot rims for those two months? WNBA already suck as it is, it would be just nail in the coffin, I do not think many people would take it more seriously if they do that.

Would this also make her the first female player in Big 3 history?

Ice Cube pushing the culture for women forward i see. She should take the offer and run. She is worth way more than what the WNBA can offer her.

A'ja Wilson (one of the best in the WNBA) only has a 2 year / $398,422. Caitlin lowkey should consider this.

There's no chance in hell she's taking that lol. Big3 is a dumb gimmick. She's not going to lower her brand value by doing that crap.

Maybe if they offered her $50M but yeah...$5M is chump change for her

Do you know what typically happens when a business loses money? They go bankrupt.

I am sorry about your depression but this is a really bizarre and unrelated comparison.

The wnba is already different game from the nba already and women are different from men. Its natural that there will be some differences in sports.

Even in woman's tennis for example they play 3 sets instead of 5 in grand slams.

Now you can argue that some other change should be made instead of lowering the rim. They can do something else to increase popularity though I am not sure there are any changes they could make that would help that wouldn't cause blowback just like the lowering the rims.

I'm sorry, how the hell is 5m chump change for her? She isn't some sort of mega earning professional athlete or business professional. 5m isn't even chump change to someone like LeBron. For context:
It's the first year of the two-year, $97.1 million contract extension he signed with the Lakers last year. He has a player option for the 2024-25 NBA season worth $51,415,938. There are 82 games in the regular season, so James makes $580,577.44 per game

5mil for a maximum 10 games = 500k/game. It would put her on an earning scale similar to the superstars of the league today.

They gotta try something, the WNBA never made any money since its inception. There is nothing to discredit as it was never successful or even relevant. Maybe this way it could be.

Well, she is arguably the most popular current athlete in the United States. I'd be surprised if she takes $5M to play in a gimmick league. It's like PornHub paying Nicole Kidman $20M for a porno...I just doubt she takes it.

The highest paid player in the WNBA doesn't even make 500k in a season, I believe it's actually half that.

Isn't this for 10 games?

Highest WNBA salary last season was under 250k. Of course many of them make their money overseas too. She would be making a little more in one game than the highest paid WNBA player makes in two seasons.

Interestingly women's volleyball isn't discredited for lower nets and women's tennis isn't discredited for fewer sets. If it's a men's league, sure, but not sure why lower rims would discredit a women's league.

Maybe, but what prevents her from doing one and then the other. She can still pursue her WNBA career after cashing in the check from the Big3.

She'd lose a lot of respect among both her fans and her peers. Caitlin Clark is universally loved right now and doing something to ruin that doesn't seem like a wise move to me.

No one loses respect for someone accepting 5 million dollars to play basketball. Anyone with half a brain would accept that.

She could easily do 1 year of the Big 3 and then be rich, and play the rest of her WNBA career after.
