Well Hansen needs to declare before April 27. I would take him at end of lotto. No additional scouting needed uncondtionally.

Interestingly Hansen is his Chinese name. It just happens to be a name in English of Nordic origins.

He looks a bit deliberate out there and not that incredibly quick, but at least against that level of comp it doesn't really matter. I love his high post passing. Pretty incredible court awareness for a big that age.

He's not eligible for the 24 class, btw, due to contract issues...if he's a prospect it won't be until 25

@Clyde, can you provide a link or more details about the contract issues? If it's just there is no out in his C(hinese)BA contract, could he be drafted and euro(china) stashed? It might make very good sense for him to enter this (weaker) draft if that is the case...

Making it up; there is no source on Chinese internet on this contract info. Any foreign contract does not affect his eligiblity. Hansen is eligible to enter the draft his year. A team can select his right, and this is independent from his ability to sign a NBA contract.

His Chinese name is: 杨瀚森

Let me reiterate, a player's NBA contract eligiblity is entirely separate from his draft rights.

I am wondering if he has asthma or if it is just lack of conditioning because of his size + age but he seems to get worn out rather quickly and just spends a significant amount of time with his hands on his knees & falling out of plays on both ends because of it. Has nice post moves and is a good passer, his shot looks like it could develop a bit. Lateral mobility is okay when he's not winded, but bad when he is. I like him in the mid to early second and if you told me a team watched way more film than me an he went late first I wouldn't be shocked.

I'm old enough to remember you crying when I told you you were jumping the gun declaring Bub Carrington was returning and you wanted to wait for proof. Now you're crying because I wanted to wait for proof on Yang because you claimed it was a contract issue (we don't know if that's the reason btw so you taking laps is laughable). Can't make this up. You really do deliver on a constant basis  I mean, this was the easiest laid trap and you couldn't avoid it.

Anyone watch the full game? The highlights show what I was concerned about - his stamina and lateral mobility seem pretty awful (will be improved as his body develops, but how much?), and defensively just totally inconsequential because he was constantly gassed. You can chalk it down to playing against a much better team, but it was pretty evident in his CBA games, too. At the same time, the offensive footwork is really fun to watch when he is playing well.

He needs a ton of work on his body to get to the point where he might be able to play in the NBA, the skills are interesting and he is obviously NBA sized for sure, and it's hard to really tell without enough real guys around him.

The problem is that playing in the CBA is about the worst possible development condition you can imagine, and this is an opinion widely shared by even those in China. And it doesn't seems like he is going to go play in Australia or anything. (it's gotten even worse these few years for a variety of reasons, and to further complicate matters, Yang plays at one of the poorer teams even in the CBA, Zhou Qi's Xinjiang team looks awesome in comparison.)

So if that's the path he's going towards it's hard to like his odds, unfortunately China has had some interesting prospects over these few years but mostly all screwed over by not having the proper chances to develop, the CBA's home team incentives are really messed up that it almost always helps them more if these kids can't play in the NBA and has to comes back to play for them.

They have these twin brother Huan Sinan and Huan SiFeng in the states now and I don't think they're associated with a home team in China so that might give them better chances to be able to just properly play through the NCAA, if Fanbo Zeng had just gone to Gonzaga instead of the Ignite the odds were at least somewhat better. (granted we didn't quite know Ignite would be such a disaster back then.) (Kevin Zhang at least looked like he was going somewhere in Tulane for a minute.)

Hard to evaluate him playing with such inferior players. Not sure why China likes to do this with their prospects. I get national pride, but if the rest of the team is overwhelmed, what is the guy really supposed to do?

Even uglier game for Yang against the Spurs. 0/5 from the floor. At least went 6/7 from the FT line and grabbed 8 rebounds. 4 turnovers, 4 fouls. Terrible mobility, probably could have been called for a defensive 3 seconds every other play. He looks totally gassed and I'd chalk it up to playing a games relatively close together against better competition, but he looks gassed in CBA games, too. He needs to lose 15 pounds, at least, and improve his conditioning dramatically.

he looks much heavier now than he was at the U19 last Summer and he wasn't in great shape then. Too heavy tbh. It's affecting his lateral movement, lift and stamina. He won't stand a chance until he gets in much better shape. As far as his performances in the SL, he isn't being helped by their guard play and system. They don't seem capable of even making an entry pass into him when he's got position and that's even if they were looking his way to begin with. He's so skilled though. I hope he gets it together but I seriously doubt he will now. I can't stand when basketball players are out of shape. You have to try really hard to be out of shape when you're a professional athletes. I have no respect for them.

lol nothing has changed from a few months ago when he was playing in China, you're just seeing him in real time against fringe NBA talent and now all the sudden he's not as athletic or not as conditioned as you thought

he's just not very good right now

U19, when he played against a bunch of NBA prospects, was a full year ago. Try to keep up

I like him somewhat, but he has conditioning issues and too many turnovers.
