Expansion team(bit of fun)

Post#1 » by Donkedave » Sat Mar 30, 2024 2:16 pm

Ok I’m the expansion team for 2024-25 season we are the Las Vegas CHIPS.
Every team gets to keep 7 of the current roster. So give the names of the players from your team that you would keep Yes the chips can only select a value of $145m from this list. And….. go enjoy it have some fun!

First to reply from a team will be the coach of that team and submitted players will stand.
The Chips can select up to 15 players from this list and will have draft picks of 31 & 61 going into the 2024 draft
Obviously your teams players will return to your team if not selected by the chips.
Poison pill contracts will be of averaged over the same amount of years as a starting wage including current season

If you leave a free agent off the list it’s the same as not signing them or extending them prior to draft.

RFA will be the same as normal you leave them off the list they sign with chips for same as current year
Player and team options will be classed as free agent if left off the list.
Upcoming free agents are also signed on current deals for 1 year with chips only if left off of lists.
Will use spotrac for current salary and contracts
Chips can only select a maximum of 2 players from any team. 2 way players if signed by the chips will be a minumum wage.
All salaries are averaged out over the length of current deals if

Pistons:

This is depressingly easy

Keeping: Cade, Duren, Ivey, Thompson, Stewart, Fontecchio, Grimes, Sasser

Available: Stanley Umude, Troy Brown Jr.

Yeah, noticed that, no problem

It's still easy: drop Sasser

Since Miles Bridges is a UFA and his bird rights can't be claimed, Charlotte's got a very easy top 6: Melo, Mark, Miller, Micic, Mann, Grant Williams. #7 would either be Nick Smith Jr or Nick Richards, I would go NSJ

That leaves Davis Bertans (partial guarantee), Cody Martin, Nick Richards, Seth Curry (UNG), JT Thor (UNG/Team option), Bryce McGowens (UNG), Poku (UNG) available. I'd be floored if Richards wasn't selected by an expansion team to be honest but I'm so sick of watching him play that I don't care

I think this is right. For me its pretty easy to unprotect Hardy over Green. I think you could even argue unprotecting Exum because what does an expansion team want with him really? Maybe you do one of those toss a 2nd rounder at them to not draft him.

Is this legal?
The argument for Hardy over Green is that Mavs will likely lose THJ and Hardy is a better replacement.
The argument for risking Green is: Green isn't good in the starting lineup for the purpose he was supposed to fill, POA defender, and if he's a bench player on the Mavs, they'd risk losing him on expansion, and use his salary slot on a better fit.

I'm just not convinced Hardy is a playoff rotation player. Green is. And with Jones gone, he might be right back in the starting lineup next year.

Now if Dallas can reallocate his salary with their limited remaining assets to upgrade him, sure, but Dallas isn't at a point to let better players go imo.

Have to choose 7 players on this list. FA included it’s an expansion draft remember.

Having full MLE in the aftermath of the new CBA is better than in previous years, few teams have it and the hardcapping at 1st Apron is no longer limiting since teams can't trade for bigger salary w/o hardcapping either way.
Throwing full MLE at Melton for example and BAE on DJJ, will result in a better fit.
I agree Green is a good player, but his fit as a starter in DAL is suspect, you don't use his on ball qualities and navigating screens is his main shortcoming on defense while being a must have quality for Mavs 2nd guard, and that's where DAL needs to invest the last piece.
If Green is exposed on expansion draft. he's most likely gone, so they should do it only when they have a plan.

keeping
White
Dosunmu
Williams
Phillips
Caruso
Bitim
Craig

up for grabs
Lavine
Ball
Taylor
Vucevic
Terry
Funk

UFA
DeRozan
Drummond

Lavine makes a lot, a team would save the Bulls from Vucevic, I don't know where the injured Ball falls
nobody up for grabs has played enough or well enough to be attractive

WASHINGTON WIZARDS

Avdija, Coulibaly, Kuzma, Kispert, after that it's even more depressing than Detroit ;-)

Maybe Vucevic, PBJ, Omoruyi

Please, go ahead and take Poole! Probably lose Johnny Davis.

If Free Agents go on the keep list, then Tyus Jones and (my opinion though apparently not the team's) Jared Butler rather than PBJ and Omoruyi.

Toronto:

Barnes
Quickley
Barrett
Pöltl
Dick
Olynyk
Agbaji

Tough decision not to protect B. Brown, but at least they would create cap room if he’s picked up.
