Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Zach Edey was on team Canada last year. He played 4mpg and played in 5/8 games.

or better yet the difference between Drew Timme and Luka Garza who dominated in college as big men.
You can call it a strawman, but the best players in college end up good players in the NBA like 10% of the time. And we often do the same thing... try to go against the grain and find the guys to break the mold. Edey and Garza have nearly the same statistical progression years 1-4. Both made big jumps their junior years and dominated senior season. Garza even had a decent 3 ball in college.
Garza is 6'10'' with an 8'11'' standing reach. Timme is 6'8.75" with a 9'0.5" standing reach. Those guys are undersized post players. Easy to see why that might not translate.
Edey is 7'3.25" with a 9'7.5" standing reach.
So you are saying the only difference between them is size? so the only premise behind Edey being better is because he is huge. What could go wrong.
So your saying don't pick him because he was to good in college and other good players in college were not good in the NBA? Are you suggesting that we look for players who are not good?
Do you know how many college freshman and high school players that came to the NBA and busted? It is a lot.

How many other prospects in this draft were even invited to play for their national team? How many other guys under 21 were playing in that tournament?

Right so why are you hand picking Edey out over other seniors who have been productive like Shannon, Knecht, Sears....
Why are those guys not high on your board?

Edey is on a different level than those guys. Back to back player of the year. No one has ever been as big as Edey and also had the type of stats he has.

There has been plenty of guys in the NBA as big as Edey, the best ones that were his size were far more skilled players..
Wemby, Porzingis, Smitz, Arvydas, Ilgauskas, Yao, Sampson were all 7-3. They are/were all significantly more skilled players then what Edey is. There are also plenty of examples of guys that are 7-3 or bigger who were not very skilled and were not good NBA players.
If you strip 75% of the skill away from Porzingis and Wemby they are not dominating the NBA just with size.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Multiple nba execs say this is "the worst draft they have ever seen"
Get a role player or high level back up and call it a day. Don't go chasing upside in a crap draft. That's my thinking. Grab a shooter or back up pg or backup center or defensive specialist.
Trade out for an impact vet, if you can. Good luck.

Overall draft analysis
1. There is no clear cut #1 pick, nor #2 pick. That is the first issue.
2. The College class sucks, especially freshman.
3. We have had a bunch of injuries to top guys. Cody Williams, Topic, Castle, Collier all missed decent amount of time.
4. Topic, Sarr, Risacher, Saluan, Holland, Buzelis, Smith, Almanza and Comanche are potentially all first rounders and the majority of fans haven't watched them play a full basketball game and most have only seen a few mins of highlights.
I still think when it is said done there will be 4-5 allstars in this class, but it just isn't as sure of thing you get one of those guys with a top 3 pick.
Things I like about the class. It is extremely young. Scoot was the 2nd youngest guy in last years top 10 outside of Bilal. There are 8 guys in the top 11 right now that are younger than Scoot was.
#2 the international prospects are very strong in this class compared to last year

Am I really having to explain why I think it's silly to say a guy who might not be a lotto pick in a weak draft is at his FLOOR a multiple time DPOY, All-NBA, All-Star?
I am saying that because Edey is a much better prospect than Gobert was. Edey is a lot bigger and a lot more mobile.
Gobert:
Lane agility - 12.85
3/4 court sprint - 3.57
standing vert - 25
Max vert - 29
When Gobert was tested he was 7' 0.05" without shoes and 237 lb
Edey:
Lane agility - 11.37
3/4 court sprint - 3.45
standing vet - 26
max vert 29.5
When Edey was tested he was 7' 3.25" without shoes and 306 lb
Gobert himself was picked 27th overall.
I’m too lazy to look it up myself, what was Marks times? How do they compare?

As they’re no standouts, I’m struggling to rule out any player including Edey.

Ron Holland has better gleague numbers than Scoot had last year, it's all how it is spun. Scoot was sold as a guy that was dominating grown men despite it being his 2nd year playing in the league and being 0.5 year older than Holland is on their respective draft nights.

Mark skipped the athletic testing and just did the measurements

I don’t want Holland. He’s a tweener who doesn’t have the size to compete as a 4, nor the 3 point quality shooting % to play the 3. I’d rather take a senior who’s proven verses a young Holland.
Fats spoke of getting a solid player verses drafting for upside in a weak draft. Clingan is one who falls into that category for me. Size, decent strength and a good athlete for a 5. Not a great shooter but solid inside the circle, good hands, finisher, blocks shots, tough defender. With Mark’s health questionable we should look hard at Clingan. Another senior to consider is Dalton Knecht. Is he a guaranteed starter in the NBA? No but he is a tremendous shooter and scorer, good passer, good athlete with size and could be the best running mate to LaMelo in this draft.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Yeah not really sure you are looking at the draft from the right viewpoint. We aren't a playoff team, drafting for fit or need and trying to draft the perfect player is probably the wrong move. We need to be primarily focused on drafting the best player.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
For those worried about Topic long ball shooting... take a look at his projected NBA 3pt% here.
https://www.tankathon.com/players/compare?players=nikola-topic--luka-doncic
Also, in no way am I saying Topic is Luka, but I think looking at their ft%, 3pt%, 3pt volume etc is an interesting comp.

Here are some other guys we know to compare.
Nick Richards
Lane agility - 11.42
3/4 court sprint - 3.25
standing vert - 30
max vert - 34
Nick Richards measured 6'10'' barefoot and 241 lbs
So nick was actually slower than Edey in lane agility and slightly faster in the 3/4 court sprint. Nick jumps about 4 inches higher but Edey starts off 5 inches higher when comparing standing reach (Edey is 9'7.5", Nick 9'2'')
So we are talking about a guy 5" taller than Nick Richards who is big himself. 5" is the difference between 6'4'' and 6'9''
