Off-Season Deal: Raptors/Knicks/Magic/Thunder

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Tue Apr 2, 2024 2:24 pm

Ill offer this idea for:
-Raptors to get draft collateral for Bruce Brown to further accelerate rebuild/maximize flexibility
-Knicks get a defensive SG/SF in Bruce Brown
-Magic get flexibility and draft collateral in order to re-sign Bitadze
-OKC gets a starting calibre 5 to align with with existing core for excess draft collateral

To Toronto (Trade Brown)
-2025 Orlando 2nd round pick
-2027 Orlando 2nd round pick

To New York (Trade Bogdanovic)
-Bruce Brown (1 year, $23 million)

To Orlando (Trade Carter Jr, 2nds)
-Bojan Bogdanovic (1 year, $19 million)
-2028 OKC 1st round pick (1-14 protected; 2029 1-14 protected; 2030 1-14 protected or 2030 & 2031 2nds)

To OKC (Trade 1st)
-Wendell Carter Jr. (2 years, $22.8 million)

Why?
-The Raptors get some further draft collateral to further maximize draft picks and cap flexibility from Siakam trade
-The Knicks get a younger SG/SF in Brown in his prime who provides versatility and perimeter defence off bench
-Orlando looks to re-sign Bitadze with Bird Rights while getting Bogdanovic to replace Ingles who is on a T.O. as they get a 1st round pick for Carter + 2 2nds.
-OKC adds another starting calibre piece in his mid 20s on a reasonable deal for a distant 1st round pick

Assuming NYK is looking for another guard I think this is a nice deal all around.

I thought MAGIC will be a buyer this offseason...or at least they should...I think they will use WCJ to satisfy some need like trading him for Herro or attaching some assets and turning him into Allen...

Knicks would prefer to keep Bojan or trade him for someone else big (Barnes?), I think that with Hart/Donte/Mcbridge a 3/4 backup is more necessary

I really hope they are and I hope they aim higher than Bojan. WCJ is a good trade chip and their need for backcourt scoring is much more pressing than adding a good, but old and slow frontcourt player...It would be an improvement on paper but not really addressing team needs - Herro would be much better, IMO.

I really like WCJ's fit on OKC but I'd be more interested in a guard like Cason Wallace or Isaiah Joe coming back.

What about something like -

ORL OUT - Wendell Carter JR
ORL IN - Tyler Herro

OKC OUT - Kenrich Williams, MIA 25 FRP
OKC IN - Wendell Carter JR

MIA OUT - Tyler Herro
MIA IN - Kenrich Williams, MIA 25 FRP

ORL gets their lead guard.
OKC upgrades their size.
MIA alleviates its $$$ crunch, gets a role player that on paper is a scheme fit and regains control of their future pick.

I like the idea of OKC getting any small veteran piece that would expire when Chet and JDubs new contracts will kick in, just feels like them not utilizing that cap space is a wasted opportunity. WCJ fits well from that perspective and gives them an extra rotation big

Sign me up...ORL takes on more money and (maybe) injury risk... I'd even add DEN 25 frp if needed. I think Herro fits beautifully next to Suggs, with the ball in his hands and a lot of open 3's and lanes to the hoop, thanks to Paolo & Franz' gravity. His defense is a detriment, but not enough to resist adding that kind of offensive firepower...I expect he'd avg 20+ ppg (as always) but up his assists substantially without really dominating the offense. ORL generates a LOT of open 3's - they just haven't had a sniper to cash in on a reliable basis.

Thunder should look elsewhere...WCJ would fit perfectly alongside Bam in the front court and they also save a good number...they also have several guys in the K.Williams mold

maybe an injury risk? Herro gets hurt and misses games every year. even now as Miami is making their playoff push, Herro is hurt yet again.

Historically, WCJ is there too.

I love the idea of Herro in Orlando with Suggs or Black in the backcourt

WCJ not paid as much and would be counted on quite the same. I mean, in just exchange of assets its a decent deal. Herro just isnt someone i could count on.

If nothing bigger materializes with Bogey's contract, and we can't get Caruso out of Chicago, Brown would be a solid plan C.

I dont like the pick coming back to the Magic. At minimum WCJ should net a pick as good as Rozier trade did. WCJ would be a perfect fit for the Thunder and they have the picks to make it happen, but dont think this one gets it done.

I don’t see a reason why OKC would trade a 2028 first and tie up their own picks when they have so many other picks..

By 2028, OKC projects/hopes to be in the repeater tax/open the apron, in the finals and probably a banner… and Presti seems to be delaying assets to cover the depth once that time comes.

WCJ is a nice target. But OKC has 30 million in cap space and probably 4 firsts in 2025.. there’s probably a deal that makes more sense for OKC.

Herro's a significantly more impactful player than WCJ...agreed- only if he's healthy
