2) Go big fish hunting... Giannis, Spida, Mikal Bridges, etc. types to get Brunson more help and to move on from the Randle at PF era. In this scenario, there's a strong chance we part ways with Randle, Mitch, and Bogs. The Nova boys are likely kept in tact. This could get us into contention as well, obviously, depending on who we trade for and what we give up.

I'm good with either option. We're in a good place.

Personally, I go route 1. Route 2 is hideously expensive with no guarantee of winning anything major.

Yep...Randle kinda has a bad rep already unfortunately. It felt like this year was gonna be chance for him to have a big postseason and change the narrative. Tough all around.

One thing about Randle...he was definitely fighting to play. There was no doubt about that. We might have problems with aspects of the play, but the guy wants to be on the court.

Would look I to Mikal Bridges this offseason. He doesn’t need to be a lead guy with us and that’s not his game. He’s a high level role player. Having him there would only improve the defense in the lineup and would be great insurance for OG.

We need to consider all options this offseason. Any and all. Brunson won’t be on a his bargain contract much longer and he’s in the elite prime of his career. Need to make bold moves now.

I see where you’re coming from, but you don’t rock the boat when Thibs has unlocked Brunson as a superstar. Not to mention career production from DDV, Hart, Hartenstein, Deuce, Mitch, and even Precious.

Thibs little 4-out iso offense is doing for Brunson and Randle what D’Antoni did for Nash and Lin. I don’t see them shaking that up unless they trade for an alpha superstar like Embiid who won’t tolerate/survive Thibs overworking style.

The benefit of route 1 is that we keep our picks and we know that the team is really, really good when fully healthy. It would just become a matter of preserving guys as best as we can in the 2nd half of the season. I would go route 1 and try to use Mitch + Bogs + picks to bring in one more stud 3&D guy (Mikal Bridges) to really put us in a great spot.

You can’t rush him back now, but I’d be very curious to see OG at PF now.

I don’t look at it that way. It’s about being smart and avoiding long term damage. Randle waiting this long means he won’t even be ready for the start of next season. Do we want og’s injury to become chronic too ?

Doctor's everywhere definitely approve and recommend comparing an injury to one person in a completely different part of the body to an injury to a completely different person in a different part of the body.

maybe you're not keeping up with the news but doctors say there's some concern with og's injury becoming chronic if he keeps getting reinjured

If OG comes back, it will be very valuable information gathering to see how this team performs without Julius.

This injury ends our chances for a real run this season, but I don't think it hurts us long term. The proof of concept was established in January. This team, when healthy is legit, we have to use the offseason to make the right supporting moves, but the outlook is still positive for next year.

You don't bring OG back unless he's 200%.

We're not winning a chip without Randle. We could potentially make a run at the ECF without him and with a healthy OG, but you don't risk causing permanent damage to his elbow for that.

OG's gonna be on our books for 4 more years. You have to think long term.

My inclination would be to shut him down as well. No basketball-related activities until it heals completely.

I understand why he delayed surgery to attempt the rehab so he had the possibility of playing this season and I also understand if it was finally realized he couldn't go this season. We can even be patient with him starting next season slow like this season off the ankle because we have seen him get rolling soon enough.

Just get healthy and ready to go next season.

I'm more interested to see what happens with OG because his pending FA, the contract he'll command in view of him actually getting back this playoffs. Are the Knicks going to be comfortable giving him the sizable bag he wants if he doesn't come back this season at all?

Knicks fans won't ever be able to enjoy any success without always wondering if it's going to come crashing down in an instant. Sure, every fanbase has that possibility if their 'star' player would get injured but the Knicks fanbase hasn't had much success to enjoy recently so it taints theirs more harshly.

dakomish23 wrote:It sucks for us b/c after that BKN win I was sure we were a legitimate contender. All I needed to see was OG be more aggressive & the bench unit to keep us afloat. And we did it.

Also, Randle was well on his way to another all NBA caliber season after the horrific start.

Just bad news all around. Get healthy, this isn’t the end of this run.

Start Bogs at PF would be my vote IF OG gets back to have enough offensive punch to make some noise. But just as good a case if not better start Precious instead. As a starter his averages are

12.5 PPG 9.5 RPG 1.4 APG 1.8 BPG 1.1 SPG at 52.6% FG

OG not coming back. Any day the Knicks will drip release the news that OG is done for year as well.

I'm tending to agree with this... we want to lock him up at a reasonable deal for 4-5 seasons. Same with iHart (locking him up, I mean). Those two are our main priorities when free agency starts. Have to lock them both up to ensure we're a great team for the next half-decade. That's step one.

This is why you get rid of the most injury prone guy (Mitch Robinson) this off-season to have one less guy to worry about. If it's just OG on the roster that has an injury history... you can manage it I would hope.

Who knows what's up with OG. It's tough to trust Knicks doctors and Thibs though.

Rock what boat?

We haven’t won anything of significance. We weren’t a title team this year even when fully healthy.

We have all these draft picks we collected. It’s time to cash in to get a good player. We can’t run it back again and expect to be good with a bunch of guys who are either inconsistent or miss 40% of the NBA season each year. We can’t truly on guys like OG to be contenders or we will never win anything.

Hypothetical trade: Do the Clippers do a sign and trade PG for Randle/Bojan and maybe this years first? Do the Knicks even do that?

I think it makes sense for both teams but is kind of a gamble as well for both teams. PG is older, not that durable, and commands a huge paycheck. Randle is cost controlled for the next 2 years, fits their need for a true PF instead of Kawhi there. PG for the Knicks would play SF and we'd have to move OG up to PF. I wonder if that will lead to further injuries for OG. But I think thats a good fit offensively.

Your logic would suggest that you get rid of any player that have a checkered injury history not just the guys you don't like. Especially if they are main components to the team's success, a role player being injury prone is less impactful than one of a team's main 'stars' being injury prone.

Example...the Sixers. Without Embiid they dropped like a stone and he could go out at any moment. So eliminating a role player in favor of keeping a 'star' when it comes to being injury prone seems backwards. This is also why I'm not in favor of trading for injury prone 'stars', it's too risky.

from what i've read about this, it's better for him to come back fully healthy or this could become something he has to manage forever. and he already got re-injured once and they changed the designation of his injury to elbow tendinopathy. who really knows but since we're not fighting for a championship this year and are about to hand him like 160 million and he's somewhat injury prone, maybe we should be careful. i know you're just being sarcastic but i explained it anyway
