He's got size and is a very good shooter. Odds we draft him?
We would have to score 130 points just to win a game because Melo/Knecht/Miller would get exposed on defense.
Knecht makes sense for a team with defenders already on the roster. Unfortunately we can't offer that.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Best option is to trade back with New Orleans for Trey Murphy III and we swap picks.
Take Keyshawn George a 6'8 wing with guard skills. We can bring him off the bench as our big playmaker for the 2nd unit. He also has a 3pt shot. His only weakness is lack of explosion. But he seems more of a guy who plays with his skills than athleticism anyway.

Knecht could be a better version of Bertans, at a certain point you have to consider him. However, I doubt we land that far down the board at this point. At 6-7 he has decent athleticism, good shot, can create his own shot. I think he is going to be picked higher than Jacquez was last year but NBA teams are still resistant to spend high picks on senior prospects.
If we had pick 8-10 I probably would be open to at least a discussion.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
I would be fine with Topic, Holland, Sarr, Risacher, Williams, Castle or Matas.. Anyone outside of that I am probably a bit disappointed with.

Oh my…HOLD THE PRESSES!! A new option has just declared….
BRONNY JAMES DECLARES FOR THE DRAFT!
Alright everybody, time to rethink your selection for our Hornets pick. My gosh…think of what we could do with Lebron’s son suiting up next to Miller and Melo!
WAIT…what the? Oh sorry I just woke up from a bad dream. In it the new owners asked Mitch and Clifford to make our pick since they are such nice guys.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Best fit without a doubt for me continues to be Castle.
Defense and high IQ. He fits perfectly with Melo/Miller. We need a more physical big body on the perimeter. Castle is going to do the little things that will make our offense run more smoothly. It's time we start adding some defensive minded players and help change this culture. Scoring is great, but let's be honest this draft doesn't really have elite scorers.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Looks like now KOC, in addition to ESPN, has the Hornets taking my guy Topic 3 overall in their latest mock draft.
He'd be great for LaMelo to get some relief playing off the ball. I want to preserve LaMelo for a full season which is challenging when he's dominating the ball 35 minutes.
Would be amazing to fortify playmaking with someone who can become elite in that category with LaMelo. Backed by Micic and Mann no less.
Take no prisoners.
Good-great PG are scarce. Teams dysfunctional at the position are not serious at all.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
If we do not land in position to draft Topic (which will happen if the Spurs or Wizards select ahead of Charlotte), I'd favor trading back for Castle. Or trading back with the Pelicans for their Laker pick plus Trey Murphy III.
We have 4 strong-excellent starters so we are ready to get serious by adding one more. And we should be thinking about NBA-readiness whether we add Topic or Castle or Murphy III.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Another one for our pick in the 2nd, only 20 but way ahead of the curve on D. Undersized big for UCLA, but athletic and switchable enough I could easily see him at one of the forward spots like another Jarred Vanderbilt. Trouble's what happens when he has to do things with the ball in his hands...

Have we all cooled on Cody Williams?
I remember early on he was fan favorite by most. Seems like most of us have cooled on him.

I still want him. His play at the end has to be injury related. But I’m okay if we address PG too at this point.

Yes. We don't need guys who go through the motions on the court.JustBuzzin wrote:Have we all cooled on Cody Williams?

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
The one top guy I am not sold on is Risacher. His body habitus seems too upright with heavy feet; it makes me wonder whether his game translates to the faster stronger NBA game. Frankly I would even rather have the more fluid Johnny Furphy, for instance, than Risacher at that wing spot alongside Melo Miller and Miles

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Not being able to depend on Melo, Mark, or Miles really **** things up in the draft.
They really need to be looking hard at just about every position. I guess it's a good thing that Miller could conceivably play the 2 or 3.
Sarr is probably the only Center worth a top 5 pick, but I kinda question how perimeter oriented he seems to want to be.
Topic probably the only lead guard worth taking in the top 5, but he has his warts too (poor shooter, lack of athleticism, etc). Dillingham is too small for my taste and Sheppard couldn't beat me off the dribble.
I really like Castle's theoretical fit between Melo and Miller, and he seems like that guy you see every couple of years who gets to the league and everyone goes "Damn where did that come from?"
Buzelis, Risacher, Walter (I seem to be the only guy talking him up), Holland, and Williams are all clunkier fits but are more traditional lottery picks.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Sarr seems more Kai Jones then Evan Mobly. An oversized wing that doesn't really do big man stuff like rebound.
Most of the guards are very unlikely to beat out Mann and Miccic for playing time. Can Castle or Holland even be better than Mann? You have to be able to shoot if you are not a center.
Then you have Dillingham and Reed, good shooters but likely undersized. We will see how they measure out if they decide to get measured.
Risacher is there anything to be excited about if the shooting is not real, also he averages 12 pts per game.
Cody Williams, would he even be in the conversation if it wasn't for his brother. Another guy that averages 12 pts per game.
I am probably taking Knecht over all those guys, just cause I think he can at least play a role and help a team.

And, Miles if he stays can easily play the 2, 3, or 4 at least in terms of defensive assignment.

My question if we can't depend on Melo then why do we continue to hold out hope that he can stay healthy?
I rather we trade him for low value before we are forced to keep his contract with no value.
I know it's a hard decision to make, but I just can't put trust in LaMelo. On top of that he has shown no signs of maturing.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Once these guys start doing their in person workouts, teams will develop clearer board rankings. I still don’t think there is any one can’t miss in this draft. Ranking by tier system is most appropriate to this group. I took a shot at it per the definitions listed. Probably wildly off especially throwing most players into a dump bucket, but my time is worth something more than pretending I’m an NBA scout. What is your list based on this criteria?
Tier 1 (can’t miss prospect potential all star) - Nobody this year
Tier 2 (likely starter for many years) - Maybe Topic, Clingan (due to size and fit if he stays healthy), maybe Risacher
Tier 3 (strong minutes role player) - Knecht, Castle, Buzelis, Holland
Tier 4 (bench/specialist) - Sheppard, Dillingham, Williams, Edey, Sarr, Walter, Furphy, Filipowski, George
Tier 5 (everything from a few seasons in the league to washout) - everyone else
